Who cares about what Carl Banks has to say, he has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys organization and never will. If a guy like Emmitt Smith or Troy Aikman said then I'd care somewhat....

That's fine. I understand they're trying to cover an entire league. Most of what you'll get in those situations is all superficial stuff.

That's not to suggest success for the Cowboys and Phillips is a lead pipe cinch. Its not. I just think that if Wade fails in Dallas this year it won't be because he was a pushover, and it won't be because TO lead the parade to walk all over him. I actually find that absurd.

Most of the time, as long as success is happening, folks are just fine with either a tight or loose reign. There is more than one formula for success.

When failure presides you'll ultimately find grousing and it won't matter if the reign is loose or tight.

Quite correct, you can predict as you wish. If you could whip out some corroborating evidence of this sorta thing happening to Wade before, I would be getting a little worried. However, with the absence of any previous similiar situations, it doesn't seem very likely to me. Certainly I have heard Chargers and Bills players say Wade was no pushover. And as pointed out above, he has stuck to his guns in situations where it got him fired.

I do have the perception that Wade does come off as a bit too laid back and that perception does worry me alittle. But also what worries me is this teams immaturity and T.O.'s, the combination of my perceiving of Wade being laid back and team immaturity spells disaster to me. Examples of the teams immaturity is them kicking Bill in the media after he was gone and blaming him for their short comings, whether Bill was to blame or not they should be mature enough to not say the things many of them said. Another example is the post Thanksgiving choke jobs the last 2 years. But hey, I hope you're right about Wade being tuffer than I perceive him to be, the team needs him to be, we'll see about it. But the bottom line is historically Wade has never wowed anyone as a HC either.

There is the possibility of a T.O. flareup. Certainly though, other coaches' attempts to deal with T.O. have not been that successful, so Wades's 'family values' attitude at least has not previously failed...

Once again I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it. Bill handled T.O. the best I've ever seen anyone handle him, and I know some think it was "inhumane" but even still he was still his normal selfish distracting self at times. I think Mooch in S.F. tried to handle him similarly to the way Wade is going to approach it and it didn't work out, T.O. ate him/them alive.

This does go back to the Carl Banks statements. Statistically, he is probably right about new coaches, in general, not doing great their first year. But Wade's defenses have gotten better every time he has taken them over on a new team. And Jerry will always be on the sidelines.....at least as long as he can walk...

It really doesn't bother me that Jethro goes down to the sidelines, he did that when Jimmah was coaching, so I don't think that matters too much, but I agree with pretty much everything else that Banks had to say. I think some of those players ESPECIALLY T.O. will take advantage of Wade!

I'm not sure how T.O. will or can take advantage of a "player's coach." What is he going to do, drop passes that hit him in the hands? Not attend meetings? I don't think T.O. is the kind of player that simply picks up his paycheck at the end of the week.

I'm not sure how T.O. will or can take advantage of a "player's coach." What is he going to do, drop passes that hit him in the hands? Not attend meetings? I don't think T.O. is the kind of player that simply picks up his paycheck at the end of the week.

Yeah I think he'll miss meetings and sleep in some of the ones he does go to. And he'll probably find some prop (stationary bike) during training camp so he can get out of most of the practices there to!


If there's a way to do it, T.O. will not disappoint or will disappoint depending how you look at it.
