1st paragraph...
"I was talking about how certain board members acted because he posted here and how
new rules seemed to grow simply by his presence."
I don't know how I could assume you meant we made "new rules" when all you said was "new rules."
I simply don't agree with this. There was no unwritten rule. There were no stricter standards. Posters felt it was over the top and they defended him. It was no different than the defense of Quincy Carter, Roy Williams, or any other controversial player.
I find this a little hard to believe. I know that it was before we used the infraction system, but it is completely against our policies on how we Moderate. The only thing we have changed in all the years I have been doing this is to go to an infraction system. We have NEVER banned, warned, or suspended anyone for their opinions unless racism or some other such gross ideology was involved.
Your perception of it is wrong from where I sit. Posters defended him, but rules were not enacted.
It has been my observation that posters immediately feel they are being challenged on the rules if a Mod has an opinion. That doesn't make it a rule. That is why I disagree with your perception. It strips the entire staff of the right to have their own opinions.
he didn't receive any extra protection. He didn't run to us. I don't think he ever reported a post. Not even ones that were so over the top that they got deleted. Other fans here appreciated the guy and defended him. You didn't. Others didn't. Don't make it any more than that.
