So that keeps you from acknowledging when he does a good job against a player who has been one of the keys to Atlanta's success this season?

I agree with calling it like it is on Carpenter as far as his finesse play, his struggles against the run and pass rushing, but I don't understand why we can't give him credit for what he does well.

We seem to be so blinded by the facts that he's not physical and wasn't worthy of a first-round pick that we can't praise him for doing a good job without throwing a barb at him.

I don't care what my feelings are about a player on this team, if they do well then they deserve for it to be said ... as I did in creating a thread about Pat Watkins.

Put the hate aside and give the man his due.

I have to admit, Carp is the best I have ever seen when it comes to running in place before the snap. Satisfied?

Just got finished watching 'Short Cuts' and wanted to see how well Carpenter played against Tony Gonzalez, (per Wade's Monday Press Conference). True, he was physical with Gonzalez and he couldn't get open. The replay is on tomorrow night @ 9:30pm EST on NFL Network.
Barbie played well v. Mike Vick a few years ago as well... but that doesnt mean he is worth the 20th overall pick!

Carpenter was apparently lined up against Gonzalez on that play and failed to shed. But please ignore all of his good plays to point out his one bad one and call him "horrendous."

I'll never understand why fans can't give players credit when they deserve it. Got to keep the hate fired up, I guess.

Inexcusable, especially against Gonzalez, who considers blocking an afterthought. Besides that, I don't recall him being blocked - until he ran straight into the offensive line biting on the misdirection horribly.

Look, I'm all for not unnecessarily bashing players, but Carpenter is not good at all. Not even in pass defense. He repeatedly takes horrible angles and tries to arm tackle almost all the time. I hate when people have an agenda against one player but Carpenter deserves all of the criticism he gets.

It happens....some guys work out great and some dont...there's been far worse picks than Carpenter

I'm still surprised at how he's turned out, I never expected him to be an annual probowler but I did believe he'd be a solid starter in this defense. But he does seem to be ok as a nickel LB in coverage.

The guy I was hoping we would take, Manny Lawson, hasn't been exactly stellar either but at least he has started 30 games in the NFL and played OK last year. I would be disappointed in him right now if we had drafted him at #20 in 2006 instead of Carpenter... but not as much.

DeMeco Ryans was another guy I was interested in that year and he has done pretty well (taken with the #33 pick).

Oh well, Carpenter won't be here next year and I am hopeful that our young LBs will step up when they get healthy. Still looking for Butler to step up this year...
