ARLINGTON, Texas – Entering the final year of a five-year contract he signed back in 2012, cornerback Brandon Carr makes it clear he wants to remain in Dallas this year.

More importantly, Carr says he expects to be back as well, and return to the Cowboys for the 2016 season.

Asked point blank on Wednesday if he’s been asked to take a pay cut by the Cowboys, who are likely hoping to reduce his $13.8 million hit on the salary cap for this year, Carr declined to answer specifically.

“You know I don’t like to talk about those things,” Carr said about potentially reducing his salary. “I’ll let that side, that situation handle itself outside the media. What I will tell you is that I just love being a Cowboy; I love being in Dallas and the community. I look forward to playing another year.”

The Cowboys have indeed talked to Carr and his agent about restructuring his contract, but nothing has been finalized. Carr’s base salary is $9.1 million for this final year of a five-year, $50.1 million contract. But considering he’s never missed a start in his eight-year career, it’s not out of the question Carr and the Cowboys could work out a deal that could possibly extend his contract past this year.

I like the guy, just not his salary...if they can work something out financially, great...if not, they need to move on...I know MANY on here are batass crazy to dump him, but I don't agree with creating yet another hole for this defense

At the end of the day, it is clear the Cowboys are feeling no pressure to get rid of him.

He's firmly entrenched, was even at team charitable events yesterday. Get to like it, he's in for the long haul and probably regardless of what he is going to get paid.

It does not sound like things will get nasty on either side. Hopefully that means he is reasonable and takes a cut, rather than Dallas just pushing the money out.

If cutting him is not an option, I would as soon they just eat it rather than have it hanging around in future years.

I don't hate Carr as much as everyone else. He's not great but isn't awful. At least he plays every game. I'll take him every day of the week and twice on sunday's over Claiborne. Rarely does he ever give up a big play

Carr still holds all the leverage. Until someone is brought in that is better he has no reason to restructure.

And if he gets cut, he likely signs a deal elsewhere for around the same money he could get with a restructure. Contrary to his reputation among Dallas fans, he would not be unemployed for long.

No one says he isn't an NFL player. Just that he isn't a top cb (for his price tag). Yes he makes tackles, but he doesn't make plays (int's or knock the ball down).

I like him, I do't like his salary, I don't want to create another hole, I just want him to get more than zero interceptions. Two years with zero, is atrocious!!! Everything about Carr sums up the Cowboys for the last few years.

Nor do any of our corners. Not making excuses for him, but I would understand if he was any different from the rest of them. He's not.

As for the pricetag, well, that is not his issue. That was the team's for overvaluing him and above all else, structuring the contract like they did.

Epic management failure if he plays under that same contract this year.

And restructuring it in a kick the can down the road salary cap move.

At this point, I hope they can rework the contract. Heck, I'd actually like to see a mutually beneficial extension done! I think that it would benefit both sides to have a solid contributor at cornerback for a reasonable price. Carr wouldn't have to uproot and move and could retire as a Cowboy and the team would have a solid, if unspectacular corner for another few years. Seems like a win-win for both parties.

The easiest solution is for him (Carr) to accept a pay cut and have the Cowboys contribute that amount to his charity. Hopefully, it's legal.

What do we think an extension here would look like? Seems like the numbers work that he has $9.1m in salary that he can get this year, $0 if cut. The $4.7 dead cap hit this year and $2.7m next are gonna happen with him here or not. So if his market value is let's say $5m a year, he stands to lose $4.1 if cut.

Maybe you sign him to a new 2 year / $12m deal with 6-7 guaranteed? If it was $7m this year, $5m next, I think both sides win there, no? That's only $2m in savings this year but you aren't going to get back the entire $4m if market value premium in a negotiation with an agent.
