That's probably the difference in our positions, then. Carr's a legitimate starter in my book. There's no way I'd consider replacing him in the lineup with a rookie 4th round pick. I'd definitely make him take the pay cut, though.
If I did add a rookie CB that I was comfortable with, and if I could find a vet CB to add to the mix, I would cut him if he didn't take the pay cut. I just don't see any way he doesn't cut his salary down to at least what he considers a small premium over current market rate for a player of his age and ability. We might disagree on what that number is, too, but it's going to be a lot lower than his current number, no matter what.
The problem is that there are no starting corners just sitting around waiting for a phone call........all the good corners have pretty much been signed by now in free agency. That is why Carr has all the leverage right now, he knows there is nobody left in free agency that is going to be better than him for what the Cowboys are wanting to pay.
And as far as "making him take a pay cut"........the NFL does not work like that, you cant just make players do something. Why do you think so many players are released because of pay? They even refer to them as "cap casualties" in the media. That is because there is an unwritten rule in the NFL that as a player, you do not take a pay cut in your own lockerroom. It is perfectly acceptable to get released due to pay and then sign somewhere else for less, but very few players take a pay cut to stay on their own team.
At this point, I think the team just lets him play out the last year of his deal as is. Besides, we have plenty of cap for our draft picks and there are really no free agents left worth a big price tag, so what do we really need the extra cap for.
