Err, you know the link said he made 8 mill last year, and he was going to make 9 mill this year.

The cap hit isn't actually what he's making. Maybe that's what you meant.

That's cool, and really don't have a problem w/what Carr makes on any personal level, it's his cap mismanagement (12.7/13M) that impacts the team (JJ/SJ) in acquiring other players while rewarding poor play, etc. Sets a bad precedent for youngsters for sure.

But the 12.7 and 13M cap charges affected our ability to go after FAs at the same position. That's my bigger gripe w/Carr and it's not personal; not his fault we went to zone when he was initially brought in under RR's primarily Man D (same year as Mo debacle). Marinelli "says" he has no preference on primary secondary coverage (knows his place), but he went with ALOT of zone in CHI as DC when he succeeded in creating pressure and lots of TOs.

He represents poor cap player management and complacency/stubbornness by SJ/JJ to admit the mistake by cutting ties and moving on when the timing was perfect to do so last off season (2015 offseason was the prime opportunity to do this referenced in the bloggingtheboys link).

JJ/SJ **** the bed last year and we are still worrying about it. Think we could have gone 4-12 w/o him...

All that said, let's hope for a bounce back year for him and the team.

only if you don't like the player. The 2nd year (5th year option) is usually for alot of money. Personally, I would have Smith, Frederick, Martin locked for next 8 years. OL are best bang for buck due to longevity.

People felt pretty good about Ratliff as well when he had 2 years left

Just saying there is no rush to sign him...they have his rights thru 2018

maybe. just funny to me people use every move out there to justify their own thoughts on what is happening. oh well - their entertainment i suppose. i just sit back and watch these days and people likely find that odd. ;)

This is your idea of fun...? The observation you were referencing is in the youtube clip:D

no rush just think it would be whole lot cheaper to do it now as opposed to 2018. Again this comes down to if Dallas sees him as cornerstone to OL.

What about when his cap charges were much under his average annual salary? You can't complain when the cap charge comes due if you don't acknowledge when the lower cap charge had large benefit.

Oh in the earlier days? But this is the NFL and the signing bonus is all that matters for a clear reason to both player and FO. We could have cut him last off season with minimal impact on the cap in 2016.

Carr was a prime example of overpaying in FA due to need for a very average player. He should feel guilty and give some of the money back to the team.
Your worth what someone is willing to pay you. Blame the Cowboys pro scouting departments and the coaching, not Carr. I am sure you would find it ridiculous if someone asked you to give back some of your salary at work, because you turned out to be not quite as good as they thought when they offered you that salary.

Going into last season we were a 12 win ball club who had an amazing offseason and were looking to contend for a championship. You don't cut one of your better defensive backs (funny but true) int hat situation. Advantage Carr.

It's easy to say things like we should have cut so and so last year....but context is pretty important.

Oh I said it last season too. Our D came up w/TOs during the 12-4 run and he didn't. We knew the D had to be hidden to even stand a shot at the playoffs and Stafford/Rogers still had a field day in those playoffs when D matters more. We had Scandrick at full health at the time last off season and is our clear #1.

I even thought because of the fact that Carr was not renegotiated last season instead of outright cut, that it would give the FO the flexibility to cut him this offseason if he proved to be a dud again. He proved to be that dud yet we settled for a restructure at an overpaid salary for performance and should be happy to have a starting corner that is as mediocre as it gets?

He only took the paycut bc he can't make 6 on the market if we select Ramsey/corner in the 2nd. Smart move on Carr's part tbh

When you have title aspirations you don't simply cut one of your better secondary players because you want to save a few million dollars. It's nice to say...but last year we simply couldn't chance it.

But he was far from being one of our better secondary players and could have been replaced with a FA/draft pick? Oh bc you go 12-4...just sit back and relax knowing you hid Carr and the D the whole season? JJ wouldn't chance it...some other playoff GM's surely would have.

Clearing 9M would have given us a chance at a replacement I think after 12-4 season where he managed to miss on all the TOs. Our D (esp the secondary) wasn't the reason we had title aspirations in '15; playoff DET/GB games?

If ya play poker, "scared money is lost money" is the best analogy I can think of regarding our FO.

Not good. I would rather he play hard ball, and force us to release him
