When under duress in 2015, Wentz completed 28.9 percent of his passes and converted a first down 15 percent of the time, which are both significantly lower percentages than the Power 5 average.

Wentz completed 24.2 percent of his passes of that distance (21+yards) and was off-target (a pass that was overthrown, underthrown or wide) on nearly half of his attempts in limited action in 2015.

I will be happy if the Cowboys take him at 4, because I assume they will have checked him inside and out, but I have my doubts about every QB in this draft, including Wentz. NDSU is a machine at the FCS level. They were just as good before he got there and they were just as good when he got hurt. Look up Brock Jensen's stats. Very comparable. In a way, its kinda like a Bama RB. The team around them is so much better than the competition that if they don't put up massive stats, something is wrong.

I understand that he has the tools that the other NDSU QB's did not have, but there is not doubt that he is a project.

Seems like there are a lot of naysayers for all of the top prospects in this draft. I hope this draft class doesn't turn out to be 2002 part 2.

Things like this are why it is so tough to successfully draft a franchise QB.

Definitely cause for concern.

Even my untrained eye noticed he was occasionally inaccurate under pressure and too quick to tuck and run.

I think part of the appeal of Wentz is that he looks like a NFL QB whereas Goff looks like a skinny teenager. But if you compare actual football performance, it's not even close--Goff is the better QB.

Goff has always been the better prospect. I'm not entirely sure why anyone would say otherwise, film clearly shows this. UNLESS someone is basing this on Wentz athleticism making his ceiling a bit higher.

I can see the appeal with Wentz, but as of right now, Goff is more NFL ready.

If Wentz is so popular because of his athleticism, then why isn't Lynch being hailed as the top pick in the draft? As far as I know, Lynch tops him in every physical category.

I don't think so. This draft has some talent. There just aren't a ton of "elite" players.

Some times you gotta dig a little deeper for gold. Picking at the top of each round will help plenty. How many times has a player we wanted been picked at the top of the round, while we waiting til the middle.

I cannot believe Risen Star isn't in here with his "wisdom" on Carson Wentz... clearly those numbers have been tampered with, I'm sure of it... lol

Because Lynch is even more raw than Wentz. Development time will be greater for Lynch, I'm not even entirely sure I view him as a future starter in the league.

To respond to, expand on my own question, I find the lack of interest in Lynch to be interesting. The pros for Wentz is that he has the ideal "look" of an NFL QB. But Lynch has better physical attributes across the board. The cons against Wentz are that his team was better without him, he played against bad competition, and his game wasn't as sharp as other QBs. But Lynch's team was great with him, he played against better competition, and he had one of the most impressive years of any QB last year. The pros for Goff are that he was an excellent QB in college. But Lynch was better than him last year. Goff had the far more consistent career, but Lynch improved every year. The cons against Goff are that he lacks ideal size and that he didn't win many games in college. Like I already said, Lynch has the best size of any QB in the draft and his team had excellent success this year. You could argue that Goff plays against the toughest competition out of all the 3 QBs, which is true, but the Pac 12 had a down year and Cal was still awful. Lynch had his team undefeated for most of the season.

Lynch improved every year in college, had one of the best statistical seasons of any QB last year, and brought his team to a record number of wins.

Brains. There were worries about Lynch's mental abilities and he did little to calm those fears with teams.

The stat that I found at least a little interesting was that last year his team was 5-2 with him and 8-0 without him.

I'm sure Risen can explain that little tidbit for us, since he thinks Wentz is a better prospect than Luck was when he was coming out.
