Carson Wentz

We had 2 backups in Kitna and Orton who were mid level starters come in and be effective in this scheme ( granted Orton only played one game) I don't think the scheme needs a top 5 QB as much as outside Romo and those two we have not had NFL caliber players at that position. I think there is a steep drop off in Kitna and Orton to Cassel and Weeden

I cant really disagree, now that we've seen Moore come in and be able to move thru the progression, find somebody besides a checkdown rb..........there seems to be more options available in the scheme than what all of a sudden became the "new normal" for the past 7 games.

The only issue there is those two weren't in the same offense. We are now in a very tweaked version.
Garrett ran a prototypical timing offense a la Turner/Coryell/Zampese which fit Kitna/Orton just fine.

It has been severely tweaked here with reads and options for the QB and WR to be on the same page.
That was to take advantage of Romo and his WR being together for a long time and allow Romo to ad lib which is his greatest strength.
You take away Romo's pre-snap reads and ad libs and well it is this ugly mess we've seen.

Wentz is the total package as far as I am concerned. If he is developed correctly he will be a good to very good NFL starter-he's a better prospect than Osweiler was when he came out, much more accurate.

If Wentz makes it to our 2nd pick and we haven't taken a QB with our 1st, I'd jump ALL over it.

First 5 teams drafting do not need a QB. Doubt more than ONE quarterback is chosen in top 10.

I'd argue that there are (currently) 5 teams in the top 10 that could go QB.

Cleveland, San Diego, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Chicago.

San Diego and Chicago will not take QBs in first, would put money on that. Cleveland is toss up depending on new coach. SF is likely only sure thing to go QB. Too many better players in other position groups of greater need so do not see Sean Payton taking QB early.

San Diego and New Orleans are in a similar situation as the Cowboys. They have elite QBs that are getting up there in age, and are seeing their mortality. If they're smart, they'll likely be looking to draft someone within the next 3 years to begin grooming to take over. I really don't know how they feel about how long Rivers and Brees will play.

Chicago, if they're smart, should be looking to upgrade at every opportunity.

Cleveland is definitely a toss up. Who knows what they'll do with Manziel. I don't think they even know at this point.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see any of these teams go after a QB.

The more I watch Wentz film, the more I think he's the guy. If he had been taller in high school, he'd probably be the Heisman winner at Ohio State and pushing for the top pick. His receivers are closer to the quality of the DBs, compared to other prospects, so they aren't constantly wide open. More often than not, he puts the ball in a good spot for them. He has a very good arm, can run, can make cuts, and seems really good at ball-faking.

I just don't see how he makes it out of the first round. Maybe scouts will put a second-round grade on him, but there will be some team with a mid to late pick that falls in love with him and knows he isn't going to get to them in the second round. But I bet he goes pretty early, around 10.

It's weird. I've been waiting for a top 5 pick to take a quarterback. Now that it's here, I'm leaning toward going for a qb in the middle of the round.

By the time the draft is here, it wouldn't surprise me for him to have a first round grade. As teams evaluate him, watch his film more, and work him out/interview him, he'll rise.

Always be weary of the trade up. Cleveland probably picks one and never doubt the 49ers jumping before us.

I like Wentz a lot, in fact he's one of only three QBs in this draft I would even consider drafting, Lynch, Goff, and Wentz. A first round pick is very steep for Wentz esp since he will need a good two years on the bench. Ideally, I'd love to see a monster trade back, if Goff or Lynch aren't available, to get Elliott and use our first RD 2 pick on Wentz. Just not sure he will still be there.

This the the QB we should be targeting IMO. Albeit, I have only watched YouTube highlights of him, this guy IMO has the most upside out of any QB. Perfect fit. Pro style offense, big arm, very mobile, smart and can be had in the second. Perfect for him to sit behind Romo for a few years. Joey Bosa first, Wentz second.

I like him more than Lynch. My QB list for Dallas is:

1. Goff
2. Wentz
3. Cook

Paxton Lynch to me is Ryan Leaf.

Wentz is not getting out of Rd 1
In fact if Lynch and Goff go top 5 I would not be surprised in Wentz goes top 15-20
We better not trace down beyond top 20 if we want to take him
