Unless the Cowboys are blown out of the water by another team cap Guru Stephen needs to sign this man to a new contract . I was relieved last season to see Williams and Collins depart but McGovern in tandem with Martin form a nice guard duo with hopefully Farniok coming back healthy as depth .

Bringing him back after you’ve invested his rookie contact getting him up to speed as a starter means one less fire to put out in the draft where other positions are lacking .

What does “unless the Cowboys are blown away by another team” even mean?

You know you can find a gem of a guard in the draft almost every year

Time to move on, I think Farniok showed more potential at improving. And still draft an OG In the mid rounds.

If you don't bring him back, you will have to draft another guard. I'd rather spend the draft capital somewhere else.
There are few positions easier to draft than a guard. No one is talking about using 26 on a guard but in the 2-3 rounds there will be a handful of guys as capable as mcgovern

Cowboys have a lot of flexibility when finishing their rebuild of the OL. They could draft another LT and shift Tyler inside, they also can draft a G/C as Biaz contract expires after next season.

Second contracts of any significant price should go to very good to elite players, or players who are above avg at a position that’s really hard to draft above avg players. QB’s and edge rushers are really hard to draft unless you are in the top half of the draft. Many positions you can find above avg players in the 3rd or 4th round fairly often
An avg guard is not a position I give a 5 mil or more contract to

I don’t feel sorry for the owners.

They make a killing on rookie contracts.

The players (some) win on the 2nd contracts.

Most players never see a 2nd contract.

If you’re bringing back Tyron at his salary, you’ve got to start him at LT, which means Tyler at LG.

So the first step in making the case for McGovern is deciding to move on from Tyron….which is a very tough call.

I wouldn’t.

He'll go to another team, play center, and we shall rue....

He’s still a great player.
Plenty of examples of elite LT who played well into their 30s.

He has some miles on him but didn’t have to endure a full season last year. They could and should expect at least one more season out of him.

I figured Trent Williams was at least nearly cooked when Washington traded him. Not at all.
