Case for Connor McGovern

While I'm open to the idea, I hate that the best case to be made for McGovern is that we really don't have other candidates.
Philadelphia has both a deep and rotational offensive and defensive line group. Top shelf already...here and now. They are putting together sacks as the very best Chicago Bears defense through the playoffs.

Things will get worse, as the Eagles have one of the high picks in the up coming draft.

Really want to settle into money movements and not at least safeguard depth of the Dallas own offensive and defensive strengths?

I sure don't and would invest the top pick into a lineman...offensive or defensive. Maybe use a future pick to move and get a really top player there.

Tyler Smith is the starting LG now. McGovern will be gone if someone offers him anywhere near 7 million aav.

It's up to the Cowboys, McGovern and his agent to work out their contractual differences. If the team decides to draft another guard, so be it. It seems quite apparent to me that they need someone to man the left tackle position more, though. Tyron Smith can't manage to play a full schedule.

Unless the Cowboys are blown out of the water by another team cap Guru Stephen needs to sign this man to a new contract . I was relieved last season to see Williams and Collins depart but McGovern in tandem with Martin form a nice guard duo with hopefully Farniok coming back healthy as depth .

Bringing him back after you’ve invested his rookie contact getting him up to speed as a starter means one less fire to put out in the draft where other positions are lacking .
Mcgovern is the weakest link. Certainly not a guy I would start a thread about having to resign. He is the guy that needs to be replaced with a first round pick or other high pick. If he wants to sign cheap as a high end backup, possibly.

If you stick Tyler Smith at LG who’s your starting LT ? 77 will not hold up . Better to utilize 77 at RT give the young # 1 73 full time permanent LT .

I agree Jerry wont do it.

However our line next year is basically the same as it was last year and thats having to resign MCgovern and Steele. Steele I might think about, but not Mcgovern unless he would be cheap. So the way I see it we need at least one very good guard from the draft or FA.

Well Waletzco went out with the shoulder before he really made an impression and Ball at this point is strictly a filler never will start . 77 has a lot of miles . Steele coming off injury .

By resigning McGovern with Farniok as depth at G it seems tackle is a bigger issue for new OLine coach Solari . T might be an early look in a April .

ITs ok to let him walk. He tops out on a 2 year 10million dollar deal for me. Whike not terrible he can be repleced by a good 3rd round pick or better.

If you’re bringing back Tyron at his salary, you’ve got to start him at LT, which means Tyler at LG.

So the first step in making the case for McGovern is deciding to move on from Tyron….which is a very tough call.

I wouldn’t.
If Steele will be healthy to s TD art the season and we are thinking of bringing Tyron back for LT, I would trade him (hopefully for a 2 since he is a very good starting LT at a reasonable price) and draft an OL with that pick. There is good OL depth this year

If Steele will miss 4-5 games and Tyron will start at RT, then we will have to bring him back

Everyone knows Tyron is going to be the LT. He's no more an injury risk than Trent Williams who is turning 35 this year and is considered the top LT.

Who started at LT in a playoff game ? Wasn’t 77. At this stage he’s better suited on the right .

No one is giving Dallas a 2 for 77 . No one

McGovern played solid last year, but like all things to depends on the contract. Personally I think we look through the draft and we end up having a day 1 or day 2 pick possibly starting there next year.
