Reeves needs to go screw up some other teams secondary......I'm not saying he's the only players screwing it up but he's a big part of it.

I don't think he is nearly as bad as led to believe and I think it would be nice to keep him around for depth purposes if the price is reasonable...if not , I agree they should let him go.

I understand and think you're point is valid braveheart. 6.6 million is costly.

I also think some fans understand the ramifications of the cap hit but they think the team is good enough to take the hit financially over the next year or two. The secondary has been a conspicuous weakness with Roy as the poster boy for it.

I see it as addition by subtraction. I'd rather give Watkins a chance with better cover skills and low salary than watch Roy continually
be abused and overpay for it. It demoralizes the defense.

Then you bench Roy for Watkins.....AND ITS CHEAPER!

(No, I am not advocating this.... I am just saying...)

If we draft a CB, he really won't be able to contribute his rookie year. Like having Reeves back there again. If we sign a FA, or acquire a vet somehow, Henry would be a pretty expensive Nickel back.

As much as I love Hamlin's play, we do need to get a CB that will be able to step in and solidify a leaky secondary.

With Davis likely to leave, though, I am not sure we have anyone that can play SS if Hamlin leaves and Roy gets hurt. We could draft a replacement for Roy.

I just can't see us going into next year with teh same starting four in the secondary.

The Giants seemed to fare pretty well with a rookie corner starting this year. We will draft a corner in the first round. That's a given.

Braveheart,

Cutting Roy:Roy Williams - pb $5,340,000 - 08 sal $3,720,000 = hit $1,620,000 not 6.6million:p:

Have you only observed one move; therefore, the dumbest and best?

Henry to SS is genius  Henry is alreay under contract. There is no difference in FS/SS anymore. Linebackers playing SS is dead.

RCB Truffant LCB Newman CB cromartie FS watkins SS Henry. :omg:
You need to realize how things work. If Williams is cut, the entire remainder of his signing bonus counts against next year's cap.

Did you see the money OGs got last year Fuzzy? I assure you all three are going to get PAID! CBs are always a high priority in free agency and all three guys are probowl quality corners. I really don't see Asomugha or Trufant even getting to free agency.

You can even go back to when Henry was a free agent. There were three corners considered the top guys; Ken Lucas, Anthony Henry, and Fred Smoot. They all got big contracts.

Diehlman was a free agent last year and got offered a huge deal by Seattle, he decided to stay in SD for a little cheaper but still got paid a huge amount.

Dielman was on the market for a long time and he took a lesser deal but the Seattle offer wasnt humungous. You do have a point with the Stienbach and Davis last year.

Lucas and Henry signed for less than $6 million a year.

My point is that with 5 good corners on the market they are not all going to get top dollar.

The problem with our secondary is clearly Roy Williams. He's the real liability and we all know it. He really shouldn't start anymore and just play nickel, dime, goal line and ST's from now on. He simply can't cover TE's anymore and every year, he seems to get slower and more out of position. I think Hamlin should play SS and either Watkins or Brown play FS with their speed. Henry and Newman are very good corners, they just need to play closer to the LOS. The 3rd CB should be Alan Ball or maybe a FA like Drayton Florence. Reeves and Jones' time in Dallas is up.

If we had 20+ million in cap room then, yes, maybe I'm on that bandwagon cause you'd have some wiggle room to make a move like that and not feel quite as bad about eating it.

But at just under 15 a cap hit like that is just to much to consider. I agree with Vintage, if you want to go with Watkins I can see that but you keep Roy as the back up, and special teams help, at a lesser hit than you would simply cutting him and having to pay a new guy to play the back up.

Derrick Dockery got a big pay day last year too. Diehlman was offered in the same area as Davis and Dockery. Lucas, Henry, and Smoot got top money for the year they were free agents, like three years ago.

He played in the nickel packages, to say he was the free safety is a stretch.

Also he was a rookie for a Cleveland team that wasn't exactly going anywhere. Dallas, should be, on the short list of NFC favorites and that to me is a big difference with having a rookie corner come in and start.

In Cleveland back then, sure, they probably didn't have any other choice. I don't see it shaking out that way here.

I love it how people think slower, older corners are natural fits at FS

it's the greatest myth of all
