This one really comes down to interviews. The interviews with the kid and interviews with both the current and former coaching staffs at his school. But I think you have to be very sure because you're getting a guy who is said to have coachability problems, seems like there would be a very high bust potential with him.

NAY

Senior Marcus Peters (6-0, 198) of Washington is regarded as one of the most talented cornerbacks but also an enormous character risk. He has had several physical altercations with assistant coaches and was kicked off the team Nov. 5.

"He tried to strangle a coach on the sidelines," one scout said. "Then they let him back on the team and he did it all over again. Try selling that to your head coach."

“It’s bull(expletive),” UW defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski said Saturday.

“We had our issues with Marcus,” Kwiatkowski said, “but there was never any physical altercation. Not with this staff.”

If Dallas can address some of the dline issues through FA (Sheard/Paea/McPhee/Graham/Peters all come to mind) than I am more than ok with a CB in round one. I think I would roll the dice on him, Dallas now has good leadership and a strong locker room.

I was about to post this. Our scouts and coaches will see what really went behind scenes. But don't tell me that articles and the media is the god given truth especially after only ONE article. Everything is not what it seems. Like I posted in another post regarding Marcus Peters; I haven't found any other off the field issues (domestic violence, guns, drugs, gangs, etc.) and those are what I would say are "off the field issues" which are more telling ala Aaron Hernandez. But if we get a premium player who is a notch more emotional than others (like our Dez Bryant), we should highly consider him. Now, with all that said, let's make sure everything checks out.

And how many players kicked of team make it into the 1st round?
No doubt at all he would of been a top 20 pick, but now no chance. And every chance he falls into the 2nd

Right Janoris Jenkins fell to the 2nd round and I thought he was the best CB that year but character concerns made him drop. He hasn't had any problems in the nfl so they do work out sometimes. I would take him in the 2nd no problem

Someone will pick him up before 27. Probably doesn't get past the Eagles. Watch him play, no way he is a 2nd round pick

I'm guessing Raven but I can see the Pats taking him as well.

Yeah, I can see WR Steve Smith taking him under his wing and mentoring him. "Son, you call that anger. Come over here and let me show you how it is down."

After Ray Rice, I doubt the Ravens have any interest in some nutjob with anger management issues.

I like him.
Not so sure he's the top rated corner though....I think at least half have Waynes ahead of him.

Position: CB
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190 lbs.

-#1 rated CB in the draft. Rated by most scouts as a Top 15 talent in this draft, even Top 10 by some. 11 INT's in only 2 seasons at UW.

-BUT... for those who don't know his story: He was kicked off the Washington Huskies team a couple months ago for insubordination. Instead of posting an essay, read this article that quickly describes his situation:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ffects-top-prospect-marcus-peters-draft-stock

-If he slips due to his concerns, would you want us to take him? He's rated by most scouts as a top 10-15 talent, even a couple scouts have his as a Top 5 player on the entire draft. He's got all the tools be an All-Pro Cover Corner in the NFL, as well as elite athleticism.

-Or, do you just say no way, he has character concerns and the Cowboys don't mess with those guys anymore, and there's other good CB prospects later on in the draft this year.

-CB is a real need on this team right now, especially if/when we cut the vastly overpaid Brandon Carr. That'll leave us with Mo coming back from an ACL injury and Scandrick who's played well this season (he's been our best CB this year). We need another CB at some point in the draft.

-If he were to fall to us in the mid-late 20's and he is BPA. Could be a steal and a true #1 Corner. A lot of scouts have said they think he'll be fine in the pros, that he and his college coach just didn't get along. Just their 2 cents, no one really knows.

-Discuss.

The area where we the fans have the least information is in regards to the mental makeup of players. We hear the rumors, but we don't get to interview them, talk to their coaches, etc..

I would be less worried about a hyper competitive type character issue than some other types of character issues. The more problematic character issues are being a mental-midget like Claiborne or off-field legal type issues.

Terence Newman shoved Dave Campo on the sidelines in a game but he was not considered to be a bad character guy.

If trae waynes falls to us in the 1st then id take him and not have to worry about any character flaws.
If not and peters is there in the 2nd id find it very hard to pass on him.

This is the right way to go. Waynes was as good off the field as he was on it at Michigan State. Many services have him rated higher than Peters anyway. No brainer if he's still there....but I don't think he will be. I've seen him mocked as high as 11 in the first round.

He won't be there in the 2nd. This kid is going to be a 1st round pick. The CB position is at a premium right now, especially with all the rules protecting WR's, and he's rate the #1 CB in CFB. You need great cover corners. We're experiencing what happens Defensively when you don't with Carr right now. D-Line, CB, and S are our top needs, this would fill one.

I would have said the same thing about Burfict a few years ago, that he is not going to drop out of the first two rounds, maybe the third,... he didn't get drafted at all. Then you have the honey badger who dropped from the first to the third for far less. Face it a lot of teams are very concerned about these sort of issues.

It didn't help that Burfict ran a 5.0 forty at the combine and didn't run the forty at his pro day.

True, but there wasn't so many reasons for the honey badger falling.

Stil not the same. Honey badger was doing something that would get him suspended by the league. I don't believe that Peters violated any laws or ncaa violations, just didn't get along with the coaching staff. I'm not saying he's a choir boy or wasn't at fault, but he may be able to talk his way into the 1st with team interviews if they feel they can work with him.

But if he's viewed as not coachable then do you want to use a 1st round pick on him? Players who don't learn don't last.
