The guy had 31 TD's and 10 INT's last year lol. Isn't that the definition of protecting the ball? He's gotten much better in that regard to the point where he's playing more conservative prior to Sunday's game.

No! When you have the head coach saying a better job of protecting the ball is necessary and when you have the QB saying he has to do a better job of protecting the ball, then he isn't doing a good enough job. This should be a concern with rookie and 2nd year QBs. Not for a guy that is 34 yrs old.

When was this stated? After Sunday's game? Of course. Eli is a 2 time Super Bowl champion and led the league in INT's.....far from a rookie. INT's happen. The bar you guys have raised......its ridiculous.

Cowboys trying to find ways to help QB not make risky throws

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo tried on two occasions during a Week 1 loss against the 49ers to force the football to wide receiver Dez Bryant despite being covered by multiple defenders. Both times Romo threw interceptions.

"I think it’s pretty clear -- you don’t force the ball to people," head coach Jason Garrett said, per ESPN. "Dez is a great player, but [Jason Witten is] a great player too. Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Devin Street, Dwayne Harris, all those guys are really, really good football players, who, if given an opportunity, are going to come through for us. Tony understands that. Tony’s typically struck a really nice balance about trying to give these guys a chance and understanding how to read things out and throwing the ball to the right guy."

As one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, defenses will pay extra attention to Bryant on a weekly basis. Garrett said it will be up to the coaching staff to find ways to get the football to Bryant without having Romo make risky throws.

"It’s what happens every week in the NFL," Garrett said. "Dez Bryant, if you look at his whole body of work throughout his career, he’s gotten doubled throughout most games every game he’s every play. The same thing with Jason Witten. These guys are really good players. Week in and week out they find ways, we’ve tried to find ways to give them opportunities."
Michael Hurcomb....observer of the obvious. Isn't this all a mute point if Romo has a good game this week? Or will every talking sports head dwell on it for weeks? It's one game.

Because Megatron is the most physically imposing WR in the entire history of the NFL?

He came out of college at 6'5, 239 lbs, and ran a 4.35 forty. All that AND he can jump.

The NFL has never seen a WR with those physical characteristics.

We have to stop comparing Dez to Megatron. Better comparison is to the other in the top 2-6 like AJ Green, Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall, etc etc

I have no idea where we drafted when Megatron came out, but he is one guy Ibwouldn't have minded if Jerry pulled a Ditka and traded the entire draft for.

How about not allowing your bone headed QB the option of changing from a run to a pass

This game really was an anomoly for Romo. I bet dollars over nickels that he returns to form next week

Allow me to disagree. We are seeing the end of Tony's career. His back is shot and he's not being up front with it. He's doped up like a crack fiend.

It's not like he's a spring chicken. This is going to be an ugly awakening for this team. $30 million in the hole next year.

We can agree to disagree sir. I don't believe romo is done until I see multiple weeks of proof to contradict my belief. Every qb can have a bad game, doesn't mean they are done. In one of Peyton Manning first games back from neck surgery he threw 3 pics
