Yeah, cause the cops never give the wrong charges.

Could be that the boat was registered to him but he wasn't driving it and was drinking, but they arrested him anyway because the boat was in his name. Could be the resisting charge came when he insisted he wasn't the one driving the boat, so didn't understand why they were arresting him.

Maybe we should wait for the facts before making assumptions.

Watch TrueTV sometime and you will see many examples of how these things go down. The cops were probably doing a random check which they do often, they noticed he was intoxicated. He failed the sobriety test, they tried to handcuff him and he put up a struggle. Benson’s fault for putting himself in that situation and not understanding the laws.

He's downright stupid. You don't drink and boat at the same time in Texas. TP&W will get you every time. They're very proactive in just about every lake I've ever been in.

I thought the whole point of owning a boat was so you could drink and boat?

They're one elite pass rusher away from a formidable prison team. One more Jared Allen DUI should do it.

BENSON WAS PEPPER SPRAYED DURING ARREST
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 4, 2008, 12:29 p.m.

Following up on the reports this morning that Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested in Texas, more details have now emerged.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Benson failed a sobriety “float test,” which is similar to a field sobriety test that drivers take. Benson also reportedly argued about taking a follow-up test on land and refused to put on a life jacket. The report says that when police attempted to arrest Benson, he refused to cooperate and was pepper sprayed.

Benson was charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, both Class B misdemeanors.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Benson, who was on his 30-foot boat with 12 to 15 others, is out on $14,500 bail.

The incident took place near Austin, Texas, where Benson played at the University of Texas. The Tribune reports that a sergeant from the Travis County Sheriff’s office says the Lower Colorado River Authority made the arrest.

After off-field trouble at Texas, including a marijuana arrest, led some to compare him to fellow former Longhorns running back Ricky Williams, Benson appeared on the cover of ESPN the Magazine declaring “I’m Not Ricky!“

If "boating" means driving a boat then he got what he asked for.

If he was just chilling on the boat and had a sober driver then this is just another case of cops harassing people.

Public intox is just another way a cop can technically take someone to jail.

I've had friends who have had sober drivers and cops have asked the drunk person to step out of the car and they have got taken to jail.

To be arrested for PI you have to be an "endangerment" to yourself or others. Either they were acting stupid in some way or the cop was just being an ***. If he was just being an ***, they should be able to get out of it no problem in court.

Benson got into trouble during his college years, too.

Aside from all this, he was a vastly overrated football player. I could see that he was nothing special -- I don't know what the Bears were looking at. One of the worst first-round picks in this decade.

I thought he was a validated first round talent but how on earth he got in the top 5 is beyond me.

All the hype was around Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, and Cedric Benson.

Our scouting department ended up landing us the best one of the bunch in Marion Barber.

to be fair to Cedric, the "river authority" has a lot of napoleonic A-holes that like to harass people. It is early in the season, and they do a lot of random checks. They probably saw that there was quite a party going on this boat, and a lot of people, so they felt like stopping them. I imagine harrasment is a strong possibility.

btw, they were giving him crap for not wearing a life jacket? are you freaking kidding me? Adults dont wear life jackets on lake Travis.

Benson is a potentially great RB based on talent, measurables and ability.....but he has gotten in the way of himself and his ability. He cant keep his head on straight and his heart in the game. He has allowed outside distractions and his own personal demons to screw up what could have been a very fruitful NFL career thus far.

At least Ricky had a nice start to his career before he let the green sticky ruin it.....Benson let the green sticky ruin his NFL career before it even got started. He has also played with zero heart while entering the league.

But such is the life of Cedric "The Entertainer" Benson

It is more likely that Benson had a party going on like the Minnesota Viking party boat. And when the cops came to check it out Benson slugged the cop in the face and yelled "It ain't me weed" and then said "you be comin fo my tv".
The cops PROBABLY let him off easy because he's been arrested at every level already (high school, college, and now in the pros). Then he cried like he did on TV during the draft while his idol Rikki Williams consoled him tenderly.

THe difference is, he has no talent and is not worth even a roster spot.

There is a method to the cowboys madness.

I'm also not understanding why people get so bent out of shape having 2 people with checkered pasts on our team?

Didn't our 90s team have a White House???????? Get over it.:bang2:

3 people...Tank, Pac, Terrell

Benson is out on a $14,500 bail.

Benson was arrested for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
The 25 year old former Longhorn running back was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2005.

This is not his first arrest.

Back in 2004 Benson spent time in the Del Valle Correctional Facility for criminal trespassing.

He was found guilty of breaking into a woman's house in search of a stolen television.

Field sobriety test on a boat? Give the suspect a life jacket and see if they can swim a straight line. Maybe the life jacket is optional.
