I'll start off by saying I know absolutely nothing about these college kids that got drafted but if CeeDee Lamb is supposed to be the end-all, be all of this WR class and a can't miss prospect, then why was he only the 3rd receiver taken in the first round? I've seen others ask this but not seen any real explanation. Why did Ruggs and Jeudy go before him?
I thought Lamb was WR1 by a lot but no one thought WR in this class had a Randy Moss.
Everyone has some weaknesses, lots had strengths.
Lamb played in an Air Raid and many NFL teams are scared of Air Raid WRs.
Think Dallas' own Mike Crabtree.
System can elevate WRs.
He is a 4.5 flat guy in an Air Raid. There's your knocks.
He also had some Gallup-like drops on deep balls.
He attacks the ball and has strong hands but he's not really a pure high point back shoulder fade like Dez type.
He's 200 not 220.
He's very quick and makes people miss but he doesn't fly by everyone.
He has good but not great speed.
Jeudy played in a more pro style offense. So he ran more common NFL routes. Outs, In's, Slants, outs and up.
He is not as quick as Lamb and doesn't really do much after the catch but is a hair faster.
He is a technician though. He runs those routes the same every time. A precision offense will love this dude.
Troy Aikman would see Michael Irvin in him minus maybe some toughness.
But if you actually watched Mike h got tackled a lot inside the 5.
He didn't have that quickness to make a guy miss in a phone booth. JJ is the same but Lamb has that quickness.
But if you want a technical route runner likely to get open almost every play JJ could have been your #1 WR easily.
Ruggs to me wasn't a top 5 WR in this class.
I watched a lot of Bama games and he did absolutely nothing on about 80% of his snaps but occupy space.
He is insanely fast though and when they got him the ball it looked almost exactly like Tavon Austin in college.
He just ran away from everyone, angle or not. TD Crimson Tide.
If you felt offensive speed was your biggest problem then he is an easy guy to love.
I'm just not ever drafting a WR round 1 with under 100 career catches.
BUT 25 TDs is pretty darn sexy. --Keep in mind Lamb actually had 33 AND averaged 3 yards MORE per reception than the instant TD guy....
I thought he was an R2 guy.
