In hindsight. At the time, every year, you are trying to compete for a championship. Just because we're not willing to do enough to get one doesn't mean we should knock it when we try to at least do something. If we take the attitude of not making big moves/fixing huge problems because we're not ready to compete for a ring, we'll never be ready to compete for a ring. Playing Noah Brown instead of trading for Cooper is certainly not the way to get ready to compete for a title. The problem is when we do something like that, we fail to fix other leaks, so the dam still bursts. Right now, we're trying to fix our OL because we didn't do enough to capitalize when we had one of the best in the game.

You don't. You fix the offense by bringing in a receiver. You should make other moves to fix the defense, but that's not the Jones' way.

Your mind-set fits perfectly well with their FA philosophy of doing nothing unless it's cheap. That's gotten us nowhere. I applaud the Cooper move and just wish we had done more to support it. Like many other players, he went to waste here. I understand that's your point, but it's always going to be that way unless we're willing to make moves like the Cooper one to fix areas of weakness.

No. My mindset is to do what it takes to win and starting Noah Brown at receiver would not be considered a way to win. We should have done more than just traded for Cooper. I 100 percent agree that we've done a very poor job of fixing the defense, but that doesn't mean we don't have to have a good enough offense, too. The offense we were putting out on the field was very weak at receiver. Cooper solved that issue. In fact, going into last year, the receiving corps of Cooper, Lamb and Gallup was considered one fo the top corps in the league. If we had made a few quality moves on defense, maybe we could have taken advantage of Cooper's time here, but we didn't. That doesn't invalidate the Cooper move; it invalidates the Jones' method for supplementing the roster with cheap FAs.

Who knows? All it might have taken was a high-quality run-stuffing NT to get us by San Fran. But no, the Joneses give us a cheap FA and late-round picks and then wonder why we can't stop the run.

When TO was in San Francisco he was a bubble player for his first couple of years. He was barely hanging on to a roster spot. A couple of injuries occurred and he was given a shot. The same happened with Miles Austin and Dak Prescott. Sometimes you just have to let a player play, to see what you have in him. There have been plenty of players that were undrafted that went on to have Hall of Fame careers.

So it is my opinion that you give your own guys a shot before you bring in an outsider.

TO outplayed first round draft pick JJ Stokes for the #1 WR spot (Jerry Rice suffered a torn ACL that year). That was TOs second season in the NFL and he nearly had 1000 yards and scored 8 TDs. In his third year he already went over 1000 yds and had 14 TDs.

I remember TO was considered inconsistent. He used to drop too many passes. Someone got hurt and he got his chance. The commentator of one of their games said he was on the bubble in preseason. He made a game winning catch in the endzone in heavy traffic. That catch announced his arrival, as the commentator said. So I was just going off of memory of what was said after that catch.

But Warren Moon? Did he sit behind someone that got injured in order to play? Back then I used to watch the CFL a lot. The dude won like 5 Grey Cups with Edmonton. I know, I know, the CFL. But it came as no surprise to me when he was doing well on the Oilers.

No, Moon was the starter from day one when he signed with Houston. The QB that was there before him retired, after hearing Moon was signed.

dude has been an absolute stud. he isn't big and physical, but he's tough and makes really hard catches over the middle. he's shifty and he has incredible body control. he gets open like crazy. he doesn't whine and moan, either.
the only thing i don't like is that ridiculous nose wiping gesture... but as long as he's actually making plays, i can live with it.

You guys want to know the difference between Cooper being a number one and Lamb being a number one? Look at those catches over the middle. That's the same type of plays we've seen from Irvin, TO, and Dez. It takes heart to make those type of catches. And it's easy for a QB to trust a player with the heart to make the tough catches.

And that's why it kind of rubbed me the wrong way when we traded for Cooper instead of giving Noah more playing time. Because Noah has the heart to make those tough catches over the middle and Cooper doesn't.

That's what I'm saying.

Cooper's departure was a culture change, for a different type of player mindset.

Those who fall in line have generally been rewarded, too.

When is was young I used to buy the Cowboys Superbowl season VHS videos after they won it all and reminisce about the season watching all those great plays and highlights.

Now I hate watching highlights because I know how the season ends up.
