Some don't leave for fear of what could happen to their children.

Some don't leave because they are so traumatized/mess up psychologically, that it doesn't register that there life could be in danger and that leaving is best for them.

Yeah, they have a choice.

Someone points a gun to my head and tell me to jump, yeah, I have a choice. But how much of a choice is it; really?

If you are going to morally condemn Vick for his actions against animals then do I get to morally condemn others who I don't have the same morals as.

Again, how do you know whether or not those who are outraged at Vick's indictment aren't outraged at other events?

I can understand taking some time to make a Hamburger as they make it to order unlike McDonalds and many places.

However taking so long for a simple ice cream cone or milk shake. I think they are in there negotiating with a cow just to get the milk.

It's not exactly that easy. There a lot of things that can it make it harder for a person to leave an abusive situation. One of them being he's 300 lbs and she's 130.

I'm not exactly sure what happened in this case, the article is a little confusing. But I have to agree with aikemirv. It's pretty sad that this gets no attention compared what Vick gets. They're both contemptible actions.

I gotta say, I'm with Brain on this one Pep. I mean, sure, if a small women is being beaten by her 300 lb. husband, then there's obviously a problem there and it could, god forebid, get out of control. If that happens, then there are a whole new set of circumstances that can be leagally pursued. However, if it is a case of a women (or an man for that matter) getting beaten but not perminantly hurt, the opportunity to leave is there. Not so with an animal unless it turns on you. Then, it's put down. There is no recourse for an animal and I think that is an important point.

Hard in some cases but not impossible in most.

A dog can not leave unless someone leaves a gate open or something along those lines.

Many times PEOPLE chose to stay in those relationships. This specific case has a history where she has hit him in the nose. They CHOSE to stay together after that.

There is no way anyone can rationally justify abuse unless it is self defense. However at the same time there is no rational reason to go from one thread and topic to another just to say...

LOOK AT ME...WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE

...unless you just want attention to justify your own stance on the Vick situation. By doing so, whether it is your intention or not, you set yourself up to look foolish.

Oh I agree that lack of posts on a message board does not necessarily = lack of outrage. But then when you start talking about it, and people start actually trying to rationalize and justify why dog fighting is as bad or worse than domestic violence, that looks like a lack of outrage regarding the domestic violence.

I think some of it is desensitization as well. Domestic violence is old news. Dog fighting is new.

The opportunity to leave is there, no question, but you're denying the factors of why someone would stay with an abuser.

Eaton is a pro football player... makes a lot of money. She probably doesn't work. Where's she going to go, and what is she going to do. Trust me, I worked in the family violence unit at a DA's office. Sometimes it's not as easy as "I'm leaving."

Why do you think DA's offices will prosecute abusers even when the victim doesn't want to? It's because they're often times trying to cover for the abuser. They love him, and think it was just a one time thing. Then the second time they come to you, they can't leave him because of money. then the third time, it's because they don't want to take the kids away from him. It goes on and on.

Anyone who thinks that a victim can always just decide to leave and it's done, probably doesn't have much background in the area.

What you've got to understand about that Falcons board...

They are tight nit. Very tight nit. And you came a day or two after when they were being attacked by other teams fans about this whole ordeal. Nevermind that Falcon fans everywhere on the board were condemning Vick and wanting him to be cut from the team....the idiots came in and harassed them even though they repeatedly told them in subsequent replies they were apalled.

So naturally, they are a bit sensitive about the issue.

Especially to outsiders of that board, such as yourself.

Your taking liberties with that post. The point of the post had little to do with Vick at all. I am not telling you anything that is not easily discernable by simply reading the post. Brain likened the feelings people have over dog fighting to those people have for child abuse. Because each is basically defenseless. The conclusion you are drawing is a stretch in it's truest form IMO.


However, I have been known to make mistakes. Are you then saying that you liken Vick to a person that abuses children?
