Changing the chemistry and attitude is happening, kudos to coaching/ management

Well, if removing PacMan, TO, Tank Johnson, Roy Williams isn't enough of a hint that the coaching and management IS serious about changing things up on this team, moves like considering cutting ties with Ellis certainly have to start making one think that "yep, for good or ill this season, the team is shaking things up".

Watching the replays of Hard Knocks from last season (I know the editting can paint pretty much any picture they want, but....) what was the leadership of this football team. Who the were the outspoken, loud, brash, guys, well a bunch of them were on the top line of this post, even Roy Williams.

This team is undergoing SIGNIFICANT change. Add letting Canty go, and trading (basically cutting salary) CB Henry and there is some major change at the starting positions and the "leadership" approach to this team.

Tank Johnson is hard to watch on Hard Knocks. He looked so good in camp early (and the news reports raved too about his play and leadership). He is a prototypical body type and seemed to have the drive early, but 1/2 way through season and onward he disappeared. Mental toughness? TO could still take over a game, but also seemed self-absorbed and pouty, even on his play on the field, which could be inconsistent with the wrong or poor route runs and alligator arming it at time or going down out of bounds pretty quickly, not to mention drops. Pac Man was Pac Man. These guys lacked the discipline and long term mental toughness, it seemed, and coaching/management is cutting it out of the team.

Now we perennial whiner Ellis, who plays well on the field, but what kind of leadership does this guy truly bring. A guy so worried about his bank account and job security would not inspire me much on the field despite his veteran savy, effort, and speach making. Sorry buddy, but you undermine yourself by sounding stupid.

At some point, if you pay guys 6-7 million, you expect the WHOLE package, and not just talent, big play ability, etc. Aikman, Irvin, Smith, they had the whole package or at least when in triplet form had it. There was just some little factors lacking in the guys that got cut, they just didn't bring enough.

You can't lead your team in a positive direction by attacking your QB, your o-co-ordinator, your TE, etc.

Now Romo is defacto leader, and has to put away a bit of the "aw shucks, grinning" (which is hard because that is his personality, and Aikman was a pretty serious, straight shooter guy), but Romo has to try and change a bit or focus on "perfection" and discipline and high standards, etc.

The makeup of this team is changing. The "make it rain guys" will not be leading this team this year. If Hard Knocks was on this year it sure would look different (probably boring to watch) but I imagine the look would be darn different.

It might take more than one season to see the results (step back to make step forward) but I think it gives the team a better chance to make strides in playoffs for longer term.

well said Larry. I think this thing can come together a lot faster than people think. If Ellis is jettisoned, I will have ONE remaining worry.

Roy Williams, WR. Something about his attitude does not remind of a champion... if he tanks this season, I bet he gets an early retirement as a Cowboy despite his salary and contract.

Amen, Larry. This offseason has been just about perfect. I still wish we'd added Dan Reeves, but that was my only minor complaint.

But we've made a drastic change in attitude this offseason. Don't know if you caught it, but Ratliff was saying that Joe Juraszek told him this was the hardest-working group of rookies he's ever had. So not only did we get rid of the bad apples, we brought in a whole new crop of young guys who do it the right way.

I probably seem like a happy fan about this team lately, but that's only because I truly believe we're headed in the right direction. If we'd kept TO and it was true like Pacman was suggesting that Jerry might bring him back, I'd be complaining as much as anyone.

So whoever it was that got to Jerry... Thank you.

Roy's attitude seems fine to me. I don't get the hate for him as a person (not calling you a hater, but some others). I can understand some concern about his on-field production because it was lacking last season for many reasons. But attitude-wise, I don't see a problem. As far as reminding you of a champion, the 90s Cowboys didn't look like champions until they became champions. I was hopeful, yet skeptical until they went into SF and kicked butt in the mud. And even then I was a little worried about going against an experienced Buffalo team. Not until they blew the Bills the hell off the field on a glorious California night did they look champions to me. Becoming a champion is a process for every individual and every team. Roy and the Cowboys will remind you of champions when, and only when, they win a championship.

I would say there are several on the team NOW with worse attitudes then Roy. But the haters just have to get their shots in.

I've always felt that chemistry is underrated in football, but for a team for of impressionable young players - locker room politicians and drama queens create a culture of me first.

The locker room should belong to Romo, Barber, Witten, Ware, Ratliff, James, and Newman. Humble, hard working guys... Pac, Tank, and Owens got a lot more attention than they deserved. Owens may have been a hard worker but for a 35 year old he is too naive and insecure to make it through tough times.

We are a much better team now, we aren't just 13 'pro bowlers' and a bunch of individuals.

Since it seems to be a fairly common theme that TO was declining in ability frankly everyone we got rid of would not have been of much help this year anyway. Pacman might have been the only one that could still out do his replacement this year=and he took care of the leaving part all by his lonesome.

Great read.

This year will be the year of no excuses.

Who the hell can we blame now?? All the usual suspects are gone.

Now all we have to do is change the QB, the WR, the coaching and the Owner. Once we do that, we'll be on our way to a Super Bowl.

You mean the attitude that he works hard, wants to win and spent his whole life dreaming of playing for the Cowboys? That attitude? Or is it the fact that he questions why Cowboys fans hate on him when all he wants to do is work hard, win and play for the Dallas Cowboys?
Being a Longhorn homer and a Roy E fan I try to stay out of the Roy threads the best I can but some of the things you guys come up with is just freaking stupid.

I'm serious, very serious. Everyone's in love with guys I don't think can make it happen. Obviously I'm basing my opinions on what they've done in the past. I'd be shocked if any one of them prove me wrong.

Wade - Been coaching before half the board was born - Never won anything
Jerry - Hasn't done anything since Jimmy and his players left town.
Romo- Had a dominant 14 months.
Williams- put up solid numbers on a team where someone has to catch the ball

Would it be annoying to mention how much I didn't enjoy the three or so weeks we all endured with half the board *****ing that we hadn't made any significant changes yet?

Should I ask where all the 'my bad' and 'I apologize Jerry Jones' and 'maybe I wasn't just being a realist, after all' posts went?

Honestly, Jones should apologize to guys like Theebs who has spent his hard earned money over the years with season tickets, and all he and others like him has gotten over the years, are empty promises after empty promise.
