Why? Goodell will be praised for this around the league and from the public, what they all want is the league to be hard on players so this activity stops. That is what he did today.

and the other issue is who would want this job? The job is basically getting the blame for all the negative stuff that goes on around the league, you're the bulletproof vest for the owners. Meanwhile the owners take credit for all the good or positivity when it arises.

Because of the way guys like Jerry run there organization their is always going to be a pile of crap at your doorstep if you are the commissioner and goodell seems to be fine with this so I see no reason why he would not be back.

I dont remember Tagliabue or Rozelle being despots like Goodell... his crusade to "clean up the NFL" is at the expense of the players who make the game, and will make the next CBA a bloodbath with the NFLPA. Owners know this. They will cut ties before 2020.

There were always troubled players in the league. Goodell made it his mission to clean it up. He hasn't done it. He's made it worse. He's turn the NFL from a sports league to an episode of Law and Order. It is ridiculous. And I'm not just talking about Zeke. He does it to everybody. And he isn't consistent with his punishments. He's like a dictator. The one thing all fans have in common is they don't like him.

I agree, this is the beginning of the end for him. It might not be tomorrow or next month, but it is coming. I compared Goodell to a certain someone who ran a certain agency. They both ventured across that defined line and got too personal with their own agendas.

Oh, sign me up for that job, I will take the public beating and respond with "thank you sir, may I have another"

different era. Tagliabue didnt have to worry about a video of Lawrence Taylor sending hookers and coke to the visiting teams hotel at a moments notice.

Guys got away with everything. No one was ever going to rat on a player unless the guy was hated or practically killed somebody. if it were 1985 we would most likely not even see the photos of Domestic abuse.

Think about Jim Brown, the guy is treated as a hero but the reality of it is he is an awful horrendous person who beat women for decades and spent some time in jail for it. Not many people know that because there was no voice for his victims. Imagine being a woman in that era bringing forth charges like this against a guy like that. Today he would be public enemy number 1 and hated.

Yes goodell could hurt the next cba but why should the owners be concerned they get the players to cave on basically everything. I dont see why that would change now.

How they fired her and kept that lazy *** Clarence Hill baffles me
I don't know why they don't fire Hill. Maybe he works for minimum wage...

I just never saw much content from C.Williams.

She was well respected but it seemed like she did 1 report per month at most.

LOL, Goodell is not going to be fired. That's just hysterical crazy talk, and I am not a fan of Rog.

Jerruh isn't remotely as powerful as some believe he is.
If he was as powerful as some have claimed no Cowboy would ever be suspended or fined.

You create your own environment in life. It's a phenomenal job as long as your ego doesn't get in the way.

If I'm commissioner my sole focus is on four things.

1. Improving the economic stature of the league through marketing, television contracts, and stadium projects.
2. Negotiate with the NFLPA on the next contract
3. Ensure every conceivable way to ensure the health and safety of current and former players and get out front on a fair and reasonable payout to former players so they praise you instead of hate you. And for the love of god - be more transparent about CTE. Acknowledge legitimate medical findings, address them, even if they shed an undesirable light and use them to make the game safer.
4. Be an ambassador. Engage fans and seek input on how to better their experience with the sport.

Finally, assign a commission of former players, coaches and team executives along with women appointees to provide consensus rulings on discipline. Create a diverse group, broad in both scope and experience and develop a consistent discipline system that sets expectations with players and coaches.

Why in the world would you want to play judge and jury except out of ego.

Better the business part of the game, engage the fans and cash that huge check every year. It would really be the greatest job in the world.

Tagliabue pretty famously set up the initial conduct policy. When he did so he set up specific guidelines with specific punishments. Rule of law and all that.

No one is saying that players should not be punished but instead that there be clear outlines that everyone can see for themselves and follow.

Goodell changed everything to the arbitrary fly by the seat of our pants, reactionary garbage that we see today. It's the same type of complaints that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson used to make about King George's legal system. It's not a novel preference in this country.

As for Goodell, he is already extremely unpopular with the public and is a liability with the players. It's not like they have a tremendous loyalty streak and it's not like they cannot find another proxy given the salary we are talking about.

His contract runs out this year and I think the better question is why should they keep him.
