Team chemistry is an elusive element and too often defined by those on the outside looking in but the last thing I would do as the owner is allow cameras in the locker room or around the team when they're doing a team function. Booger, in his untiring quest for coverage and exposure, puts a lot of athletes where they do not want to be and if there's a team that should know to keep their mouths shut, it's the Cowboys. The media is not looking for truth, they're looking for nuggets they can use......negative nuggets.
I wouldn't base much on players' attentiveness in these situations unless we can see into all of the teams' locker rooms. Most of these players are not fighting for a position and most have heard all of this before because coachspeak doesn't change much. If the coaches were installing the game plan for an upcoming game, the attention level would be a lot keener.
I do believe the Cowboys are in a rebuild frame of mind and with so many young players the first order of business to get the negative out. Dez and Scandrick might have been right in there observations but that's still a negative and the team cannot have two of the more tenured players in any kind of negative lean because they are being watched by the younger players.
As to which players will be the leaders now, I would hope Big Smitty, Yosemite, Lee and Jones will step up and of course, Dak. Leaders are not chosen by the coaches or management, they're chosen by the followers.
The term "Dak Friendly" has been tossed around but with cutting Bryant and Scandrick are they trying to make it more "Garrett Friendly"?
