Lol...small world, so you played at McDonough high, I played and now coach at Northern High. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Larry Johnson 2 years ago as he was recruiting a 6’8 OT/DT to Ohio State.
Maybe the same clinics, been to Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles,Washington, Maryland,Dematha, 1st team sports. 21 years coaching for me. I don’t think I’m missing it. Dez is highly emotional and passionate and it may spill over at time, not nearly as much in a negative manner as it is portrayed. So I take it you’re from Charles County, Md?

Yes, I grew up in Waldorf.

We are in agreement that Dez's passion spills over, as you said. And he is largely misunderstood.
I think I posted somewhere on here, I'm not a Dez hater. I used to refer to him as the pulse of the team.
He lost me in the Seattle game. I was hoping to see him in a different light for this show.
The combination of Garrett's coaching style, which can be described as hollow at times mixed with
Dez's abrasive and intimidating demeanor just rubbed me the wrong way.

We just need training camp or preseason... something, anything, to finally move on from last year's debacle.

I'm calling it a night, my friend. Maybe I'll head over to Calvert County and catch a game this upcoming season. I haven't watched a HS game in almost 8 years.

I'll see in the 'Zone

Locker room chemistry/culture is one of the subjective, elusive, intangible factors that can promote or hinder success...

In watching AoN— a few things stick out as the 2017 season autopsy continues:

1. Adversity... this team had tons of it in 2017. Key injuries to irreplaceable players, and the biggest off field story/drama in years to deal with really took a heavy toll

2. Youth... this team is in a youth movement/rebuild. Lots of inexperience/immaturity/rawness to deal with

3. High expectations... everyone expected success after 2016– so the pressure was on, Every game was a “must win” basically. Their tank was on empty after the Oakland game IMO. Even though they won that one— the Seattle game revealed just how frayed and exhausted the team was from a season of struggle

4. Leadership void... Apart from Lee, Witten, and Dak— IMO there were not a lot of other positive leaders consistently brining unity and focus to the team. On the contrary, Dez was a loud, consistent distraction and annoyance and Scandrick was a negative voice (as a captain!) that did not calm things down

5. Tuned out... I think a large portion of the locker room was disengaged with the message coming from the coaches. They were saying the right things— but there seemed to be little “buy in” from the majority of the team

In conclusion— I think the high turnover on the coaching staff, the release of Dez and Scandrick, and the continued addition of young talented players is setting us up for a rebound year.

Expectations are down but the coaches are playing for their jobs and they know it. This team is now 100% Dak’s to lead as Zeke is simply a non factor in terms of being a leader.

Will be interesting to see how they do— but I think a lot of the changes that have been made will result in a stronger locker room chemistry and culture in 2018

Garrett also did not like the more vocal coaches, the ones who took a differing stance like Pollack and Dooley.

Bisaschia was a helluva coach so shocked that he was not retained.

Calvert County here, McDonough got screwed of talent with the new St. Charles school. Don’t see many Southern Md people representing on these boards.

I didn't have any desire to watch this show. Nothing I've read here has changed my mind. If anything, it's confirmed my initial reaction.

I'm looking forward to 2018. 2017 was disappointing enough the first time around. I have no desire to see it again.
I have avoided it up till now. I don't like the painful losses and the Zeke miscarriage of NFL justice, but it has been interesting to see these players up close. Their interpersonal reactions are telling.
And, to really see the coaches and the Jones family up close. I didn't know what to fully make of Garrett until now. Linehan is more of a fireball than I thought. The brief views of the coach's meetings are mostly Garrett talking and are not particularly insightful, except some of the coaches look annoyed.
My take on Garrett is that he is good at public speaking, he knows the game, but he isn't a game planner. He talks the talk, but can't walk the walk. Not sure if his motivational approach is really connecting - it may be that the players are sometimes annoyed by it. (I was at times.) I don't think you can rah-rah the players all the time - they should be self motivated. Players need to be managed, their skills refined, and above all, prepared. I am intrigued by the change in direction and personnel. I don't know how many other teams have the owners that involved in some aspects of the day to day stuff, but it can't be healthy.
Enough with the baby sitting, friendship, and promises. Win it or else.

Scandrick was the one who called out the performance of the team in front of everyone. He said they needed to step up because they were fighting for their jobs and some of them wouldn’t be here next year.

If anything, all or nothing made me respect Scandrick more as a leadership voice in the locker room. It’s not easy to stay on a team 10 years as a CB anymore.

Player's respected him, coaches wanted him gone. I'm interested to see the new Captains.
A couple big hats need to filled.
Scandrick is the only captain that departed.

Edit: Witten and Scandrick.

Fans claim Dez was a leader but he was not a captain.

You guys know a lot of these cameras were built into the buildings right ? This wasn't like a film crew from Hard Knox. Completely different

It’s different when you KNOW you’re having a show produced versus just going to work. There are cameras built into my office building at work but I go and do my job without issue every day. If I had to sign a bunch of paperwork about release, NDA, etc. because a documentary was being filmed it would be a different story.
