We had one of the worst defenses of all time and the high flying offense shot nothing but blanks in their own house last year when we beat them. Garrett has had his share of issues but lets not put Kelly on some pedestal like he's the new breed of NFL coaches that'll be the future of the NFL.
People are quick to give Garrett a hard time even after a win, yet the deficit Philly lost by was actually more than they scored and people want to act like Kelly is still the better coach. Had we lost by 30+ people would still call for Garrett's head.
I know he hasn't taken us to the playoffs but anyone can see where this team is much improved from the three previous ones he's had.
The line is built to his liking and what he's always wanted; a run first attack similar to what he saw in his tenure here in the 90's as a player.
The defense has more quality players that are playing their tails off and have out produced our team's defense from the past 3 seasons and is doing it without Ware, Lee and Hatcher. When people saw the subtraction of these 3 we were written off to have a rebuilding year and probably have a defense worse than last year. You can thank RM for scheming designs to keep players in position to succeed, but the overall leadership of Garrett can be factored in to that equation. Especially those who were quick to blame Garrett when our defense faltered in the past.
If you think players aren't responding to his style look at that locker room post game. Look how Dez lifted the man after a game. You can't tell me this coach doesn't have the respect of the players.
I'd take Garrett anyday of the week over Chip and I hope we resign him for the long haul for two reasons. One, because he has helped with the roster being overturned on top of our salary cap mess. Two, to piss off some of you who hate on this coach.
You can look at the past all you want, but I feel good about where this season is going and I'm even more stoked where this team is headed down the road.
