Yeah, b/c Garret just arrived on the scene in 2010.

Frankly, just another empty idea (and that is saying it nicely). 1. He has not done a poor job as an OC. 2. The HC position is not the same as serving as someone's coordinator. The head coach sets the tenor for the entire organization. No coordinator has ever done that in the history of the sport. Its the same old fodder from all the anti-Garrett crowd. You just have to keep swatting it away like flies.

BS even Jerry had commented after a loss to Washington that Wade as HC had the ability to change calls or strategy as the HC. Full responsibility fell to Garrett once he became HC

Oh, b/c the puppet master said so to justify keeping his pet project? Jerry only lies when his lips move. Wade has absolutely no expertise at all on the offensive side of the ball. Who doesn't know that?

The fact you say look to the two biggest jokes at CZ speaks volumes.

Garrett wanted Linehan. Callahan was hired to be the OL coach, Jerry not listening to Garrett about finding an OC that first year led to the changes last year and it is not a coincidence that the running game increased after Garrett took play calling back last season.

The offense Linehan is running is the same offense we have had since Garrett got here. Linehan got the job under the mandate that we run more. The improvement of the OL last year with the addition of Martin allowed Garrett to run the offense he has wanted to run since he got here.

Look to? I read through the thread...they have been winning the debate in my opinion (Double Wing too) The only argument from the other side is that this is what JG envisioned the whole time...and that we were rebuilding with a top 10 QB:D

In Wade Phillips' 3-and-a-half years as head coach he was stuck with the same offensive coordinator and only changed defensive coordinator once.

In Garrett's 3-and-a-half years he's on his third offensive coordinator and third defensive coordinator.

Doesn't that seem a little odd to you?

Garret was terrible as an OC. His team's were a train wreck in the red zone and his offense was predictable. He was so bad that Jerry had to step in and hire Bill Callahan. You can't make a convincing argument that Garret was a reputable OC and had Jerry fired him after the 2013 season, he would have been lucky to catch on as a QB coach somewhere.

puppet master, that tells me all I need to know about your mindset. As far as Wade experience you don' have to be a OC to understand offense, As a DC they understand the strength and weakness of an offense you act as if well he coached defense so no way he understands offense is laughable. Harbaugh was QB and offensive coach you don't think he understands defense? This is not pee wee football.

I would argue that Wade did not have the authority to override Garret and thats why he never crossed that bridge. He would have to go to Jerry to make any changes or have you just started paying attention to how the cowboys are run?

The question is - if Wade wanted a new person running his offense, could he have gone to Jerry and gotten that done?

I think everyone here knows the answer is no. Wade was stuck with Garrett, while Garrett as head coach is already on his third different play caller in 3 and a half years.

I think many people have their own illusions of how the Cowboys are ran and Parcells seems to think many of those views are untrue. Jerry is not telling the coaches what to run, who to play he expect the coaches to go out and do their jobs. He does understand more than people give him credit for and as a former player I think he understands the importance of the authority of the HC. There is a business end of professional sports and yes Jerry is involved but even that tend to be based on information by those he has hired. So you can argue your point all you would like but fact is it is an outside view that does not seem to be shared with those who have actually worked for Jerry and the Cowboys.

I'm not a Jerry apologist. Quite the opposite. But the biggest problems that Jerry has ever represented have more to do with
1. Information - Who is the face of the football team and speaks for it?
2. Atmosphere - Does he inadvertently undermine his head coach by his love to be in the middle of everything?

And I see #1 and #2 as connected on many occasions.

The people who think that he oversees play calling, and that sort of thing are delusional.

The problem I have the with delusional folks is that they are notoriously selective.

"Jerry DEMOTED Garrett and chose Callahan."

Hmmmm, well who DEMOTED Callahan toward the end of last year when Garrett took play calling back?

Who was in charge of getting Linehan on board? (Everyone acknowledges he was Garrett's choice).

Who made clear to Linehan that the run game would be the priority? (That was Garrett, unless you want to say that Linehan is a liar)

For their theories to fly they have to pick and choose what the want to remember, report and believe.

Sorry, it just doesn't work.

And on top of it, while they argue away, we are 7-3 and headed for two huge divisional matchups. Kind of sad for those folks don't you think? I do. I kind of pity them.

I agree. I think 1 our success and failure rest on Jerry hiring quality people and listening to what they are saying and acting on it.
The 2nd I think there is a strong enough relationship between Jerry and Jason that it is not as big of a distraction as some feel.

I'm not going to apologize or defend moves that have been made with Jerry as GM I also know he is not going to give that up what I do hope for is he is hiring quality people and using the information to make the right choices.

“We’ve put a lot of effort in training as a franchise into Jason Garrett, and I want to take advantage of that,” Jones said. “If we don’t have him, we don’t get payback for all the miscues and losses and criticism of sideline management. We don’t get a chance to benefit from the one way you learn, and that is the mistakes you make. So I want to have him around to learn.

What else has to be said?

What else needs to be said is that this is classic Jerry. He is the ring master. He is simply giving voice to what he knows some of the fan base says, and then saying, "I'm not firing him." It is Jerry saying, "I hear you", but "this is what I'm going to do."

Are you going to deny that any first year head coach (head coach on any level of football) is going to have some things to learn? I don't think Garrett would deny that.

Are you going to deny that as you learn you have some things that you will eventually handle differently? I don't think Garrett would deny that.

You guys take this stuff to mean that Jerry is saying that Garrett has been a doofus. You take your banal arguments and attach them to Jerry's words.

I have already pointed out on numerous occasions this year when a so-called "top tier" coach has made tremendous mistakes in the course of a game. It happens virtually EVERY Sunday. But people around here either don't watch those other games, or they just don't pay attention to it because it doesn't fit their narrative.

I will say it again. We are 7-3. He has rebuilt the roster without having a losing season. We are in his 4th season and are in a great position, with a young team, and a great opportunity. And all you guys can do is keeping venting the stuff that is slowly proving to be E....M....P....T....Y.

In some strange way I respect the anti-Garrett guys that disappeared. At least they seem to know that their arguments are being proven wrong.

Quoted for a confirmation of my prejudices is what you should have said. Its an ever decreasing little band of people who follow each other around with atta boys :) If we continue doing what I hope we do, and what I think we can do, that is going to be a harder and harder case to make.

All I did was throw that out there. And let's not pretend JG has only been around here four years. There's some truth to what Jerry is saying there.
I'm glad we are were we are. But it ain't over. Garrett has improved as a walk around coach. What I don't see in a second year NFL HC is his management saying these types of things.
Because in his first year he went to the playoffs with far less than JG had his first year.
