Choke holds not not called

Of course the action occurred away from the play. He’s a pass rusher trying to get to the QB.

also this Exception: Holding will be called if the defender’s feet are taken away from him by the blocker’s action.

A lot if calls are up to the refs discretion. But this was bad and the overturned fumble was bad. Had the call not ruled a fumble on the field I am ok with the call. But there was no angle that showed he was able to regain possession

I agree with you about the fumble but this hold on Micah fits the description of the rule exception where it was away from the point of attack and not within close-line play. Holding itself is a judgement call all over the place so another could have well deemed it necessary to throw a flag.

Defenders yell all the time. Doesn't make it so. Lawrence loved to whine about being held and to the press to boot. Don't know that I ever saw a clear video of one against him like is in this thread. It's the nature of the position. Like every receiver is interfered with.
I saw 4 alone on parson 2 were arm bar type were holding, not caled.. a facemask actually close to 2 on Malik davis our rb, and a bad roughing call calls back an INT, a fumble that was like the dez no catch, we saw it it was fumbled never fully repossess and we recover it they say no fumble.. so many call not called and many calls were bad against us..anythig else you need help remember from yesterday's game?

they are being grabbed and held and only half of them are being called.no conspiracy i ne the refs are trying hard to not make game so long and ugly with throwing every falg but its insane how many no calls we get that get jobbed on the other side.. if they want to eat the whistle fine but iut needs to work for both sides.. it wasn't until the second half they finally started to call them but a liottle late letting the bears constantly sustain drives with bad or missed calls. 14mpoints i give to the refs,.,

I totally disagree. Here is the NFL definition of offensive holding
Use his hands or arms to materially restrict an opponent or alter the defender’s path or angle of pursuit. It is a foul regardless of whether the blocker’s hands are inside or outside the frame of the defender’s body. Material restrictions include but are not limited to:

  1. grabbing or tackling an opponent;
  2. hooking, jerking, twisting, or turning him; or
  3. pulling him to the ground.

That's great and I know the rule but you can't tell a dang thing about holding from a still picture. It's a motion penalty. Micah has also clearly used a rip move here which is listed in the holding rule exceptions I posted at the end of page 2. So there are several factors working against determining anything from that photo.

The problem is it has become an arbitrary call. Some officials call

25 years posting with my fellow Cowboys fans. I have never complained or cried about officials. I did not lie and you are really close to being a complete jerk for claiming I lied. We can go down this road if you want.

Even the most "reputable" posters on here lie, as I have proven previously with the Dez no-catch when faced with the truth of the rule. You posted a question asking me if I saw a hold on that play at the 0:40 mark of the 2nd Quarter and I told you there was nothing to which you never replied. So why don't you tell me now what I was supposed to see there because there was absolutely nothing there.

Did Dallas get called for holding in the game? I recall Chi being flagged twice for holding on running plays but I know it struck me toward the end of the game that I couldn't remember either team being called for offensive holding on a pass play and the Cowboys for holding at all.

I don’t believe it’s a Cowboys thing, or a Jerry/Goodell thing…..but I do very much believe there’s an understanding, so to speak, about keeping games close, especially the ones with the most eyes on them.

That reversal on the fumble was ridiculous, and Chicago is probably buried at that point if they got it right. I can see if they got the call wrong, but to reverse it there? That’s rough.

Thanksgiving last year comes to mind as well.

I’m not saying games are rigged, but they can be influenced. It would at least partially explain why they have the wherewithal to get it right yet refuse to use it.

Im actually surprised they aren’t worse considering they are men in their 60s chasing after elite athletes and require a split second decision. One of the refs in the Seattle game yesterday said “first down Mariners.” That’s who is making these calls lol.

I guess the bottom line is you win some and you lose some, but it’s shameful to see so many games decided by bad calls.

I just think that gets called more times than it does not. I am far from one to whine about officials or go as far as some of the wackadoodles about conspiracies but IMO the officials did not do a good job yesterday and missed some clear holds on the Bears.

I also think, by the letter of the rule, that fumble should not have been overturned. The rule is inconclusive and there was nothing inconclusive about him retaining possession. In other words, if they had called him down on the field, there certainly wasn't enough to overturn and rule it a fumble.

Called more times than not? Don't know about that. If it's away from the action, do any of us even notice unless we're watching Parsons which a ton of folks seem to do? True, the officials didn't do great yesterday, I agree. The fumble reversal was wrong and that missed hold on the Fields scramble were bad. There was a missed facemask in the SNF game last night. There are misses all over the place. But there has to be. 7 refs can't watch for several different things on 11 matchups at the same time. It's just impossible. Goofs like that fumble that are reviewed are even worse though. Just how it is, and a part of me thinks they want to leave it that way because controversy garners attention.

I have all games on video so what would help is if you cite specifics so I can go and look at it. I always give my honest opinion but no one ever cites anything specific. It's always "just what I saw." Well that helps and isn't biased in the slightest, is it? For bad/no calls, we win some and we lose some. We won the NE game last year when a facemask wasn't called in OT. Patriots would have been in range for the GW field goal, I think. We got gift calls against the Giants in the house of Mara. How did that happen? Lol. Just how it is. 7 refs can't watch 11 matchups and be looking for possession, ball spot, forward progress, football moves, etc. at the same time. You'll always look for your own teams' benefit. Try looking for the opponent to see if you find any. You will. You just don't want to.

I get that refs will miss some calls but Parson is held consistently and they rarely throw a flag. I get sometimes it is because of the rip move but he does not use that move every play.

I think the relaxed holding calls are just another way to protect the quarterback.

1) Fantasy football geeks love scoring
2) Vegas loves scoring and close games
3) Close games keep you watching and your wife angry about your honey do list. More ad revenue.

Dez did catch it and a rushing lineman @ the LOS, especially Parsons, is never away from the ball.

Micah said something on Twitter about a penalty not being called because he was away from the ball. That is fine but all I ask for is consistency because in a big game you can guarantee none of the calls will go in Dallas' favor.

But when there id defensive holding away from the play.....
Laundry day ...
Inconsistant.

1. Dez didn't by the rules at the time and 2. the rules on that holding exception don't say away from the ball, it says away from "the point of attack." If that play was a sweep play to the right it also would have been away from the point of attack as was the pass to the right.

Jeez, you guys. Again? Here's a picture. Is this along the lines of what you're talking about? Because it's actually not holding.

Yep, saw that type of "block" in multiple games yesterday and it's not penalized. Sure looks like holding to me, but they don't just not call it for the Cowboys.

I meant to reply with my other post. Wasn’t it within close line play?

Right, and unless there's further "materially restricting" action, they won't call it because it's in the rules that holding won't be called. When a defender uses an arm to punch up under an O Lineman, the rule states that it "puts an offensive player in a position that would normally be holding" but they won't call it unless more happens to take him down, etc. So it looks like holding but it's not. Micah uses that move a lot so people think he's held a lot, but he's actually not and there's rueage over what's actually not known in the rules.
