Just because a team was eliminated sooner than they should have been doesn't mean they should automatically be discounted either. This team has plenty of good characters with or without Zach Thomas. For Carter to imply that Thomas is one of the few good guys on the Dallas Cowboys is bull. There are plenty of character guys on the team. And I'm tired of 13-3 and 13 pro bowlers being used against us. I've never seen any other team analyzed this way.Maikeru-sama;2080219 said:Carter's off the field struggles are well documented, however just because someone struggled with demons in the past and eventually turning his life around, doesn't mean their opinion is should automatically be discounted.

While last year, we were sort of the Darlings of the league and we had mostly positive press all season..
..we all know that the media will turn on this team if they don't duplicate and then exceed last season.
Expectations are going to double this season and the pressure is going to be on this team to win a SB.
Especially because the Giants did what we were supposed to do.
All of that definitely makes any issue a much bigger issue to coup with.
I was listening to the interview with Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin from 103.5 and Aikman was asked how he thought the Cowboy would do this upcoming season amd he sort of hemmed and hawed about it and said 11-5 with a lot of qualifiers.
Some it was that the Cowboys really had alot of things happen last year that made their season up until the Giants playoff loss.
One of the things he mentioned before finally saying they would go 11-5 was that Dallas had like 20+ offensive fumbles last year and recovered a bunch of them, like 15 or 18 of them, which was lucky.
And that those winning games in Buffalo and against the Lions should have been loses in any other year. Another words, luck played a big part.
He indicated luck usually doesn't keep rolling for you like that over a long period of time.
He also directly pointed a finger at Romo for Cabogate as a distraction and something that Romo can't allow to happen again because some team mates will have a problem with behavior like that.
Meaning he's not convivnced that Romo has learned from the experience yet and not showing enough maturity as the QB and team leader.
It was all interesting.
I think Dallas fans do need to throttle back their expectations until this team shows it can actually handle all the spotlights it's going to have this season.
So guys like Carter and Aikman, who know football and team chemistry, have to be given some slack in their comments.
They see things that many are ignoring and fans generally assume the positive things that occured last year, will automatically translate into 2008 and being that humans are typically deletion creatures, that the negatives will be overlooked and won't re-appear.
Not sure that's realistic. Aikman and Carter know that.
So we'll see.

All day long, the Worldwide Leader has been flexing its considerable muscle -- through television, radio and the internet -- to promote its first set of power rankings for the 2008 season.
In doing so, the network had its analysts break down the list. One of the questions posed to them was "who is overrated?" You're not going to like former Buckeye great Cris Carter's answer.
"I think the Cowboys have a huge problem, and that is with character in the locker room," Carter said. "If the Cowboys season goes well, it's not going to be because of Pacman (Jones) transaction. It going to be because of another transaction that got little headlines, that's in Zach Thomas, because you need character to go with these characters on the field.
"He's gonna be some glue to keep some of those guys steady and focused towards the end of the season, when we have known the Dallas Cowboys to lose their foucs."
Just as that was said, someone chimed in with ... "13 wins, 13 Pro Bowl players, zero playoffs." Although just who it was escapes me right know.
Carter just reiterated his point on Sportscenter.
When asked the same question, he quickly said, "The Dallas Cowboys. The 'Boys. Thirteen Pro Bowls, 13 wins during the regular season. But also in the last two years, zero playoff wins. And my thing is people talk about Pacman joining this team, this circus, the most popular team, America's Team. But I concerned about the characters.
"And I believe the biggest transaction that was made this offseason was Zach Thomas because you need a character with some glue around these other characters down in Dallas."
So he feels pretty strongly about Pacman, Zach and glue.
Also, I'd like to applaud Mark Schlereth, who in a short explanation of why he ranks the Chargers No. 1 found a way to shoehorn the term "football team" in four times. Very impressive.
Countdown to those who say he's just speaking the truth...10....9....8...7...
I for one am embracing Carter's hatred.Hostile;2080209 said:Sooner or later someone would call us over rated. Might as well be Cris Carter. By mid season he could very well be calling us the best team in the NFL. By mid season people might be telling him he was right. Ya never know until they hit the field.
Pretty sure he's going to eat his words.

Wonder if anyone in the media would blast him for it?

Maikeru-sama;2080200 said:I have absolutely no problem with what Chris Carter said.
The reality is that Chris Carter in May 2008 sounds like a myriad of fans on this very board in December 2007 when we were experiencing yet another collapse in December.
This is especially true if you replace Zach Thomas with Ray Lewis in his comments as there were a whole lot of people that thought this guy's intangibles were an absolute must on this team.

This team has some problems, no doubt about it.
My concern all last fall, even during the winning streak, was that this team still looked sloppy with the huge number of penalties, along with dropped passes, blown assignments and missed tackles.
This team has some leaders, but not near enough of them. That makes it a character issue.
Taking shots at Cris Carter isn't going to solve this problem.
Everyone can take the lead of the head coach and boastfully talk about going 13-3, or they can take an honest look at this team and see what needs to be done to win games in January.
