To be honest, the only negative about Tony Romo going to Cabo is that it was going to bring unwanted criticism at his doorstep.

Cabo had nothing to do with the Cowboys losing as they were already in the mist of a December collapse and a certain poster offerered a very detailed account of how December Implosions have been going on long before Romo arrived at Valley Ranch.

I do agree with you about Carter's comments, it has some truth in it.

And judging from the amounto f vitriol being thrown Carter's way in this thread, the old saying, "The truth hurts" still seems to be true.

So you agree that this team has no character players?

Thats funny cause I only thought we had 2 or 3 players on this roster that have character issues. The rest of this team is classy, intelligent and charitable. We have a good group of guys and for some former problem child to sit on tv and say we have character issues is laughable.

If people havent watched inside the nfl with carter just wait till the season starts. Carter is clueless.

I happen to be in the camp that Carter is pretty on the ball with this analasys. The Cowboys are one of the most overrated teams in the NFL. They are constantly picked to go deep or represent the NFC in the Superbowl. And they constantly lose their first playoff game if they even make it. It isn't that they aren't good. It isn't they they don't have a bunch of talented and classy players. It is that they are constantly, every single year, assumed to go further than they do. They should constantly be superbowl threats... not first round losers.

I saw Chris Carter's little rant and pretty much thought he must still be trying to impress people over at ESPN.

It's only May so any kind of preseason ranking that early is pretty much worthless.

I didnt mind his rant so much.. except that he was all over the place with it.

But we are NOT worthy of a "shiney"America's Team label.... its dull and tarnished.

This organization is STILL in collapsible mode. Still.

Romo is enjoying his celebrity tour and TO is doing TV.... meh... not a major deal.... but we have done squat.

We did win all of those games, and still can't seem to find a play off victory. Instead of getting angry at his comments, let's go out and do something about it.

That is not what the carter issue is. He has said two times now on espn that we lack character players. He is painting the whole team with the tank and pacman brush.

On draft day he was talking and wingo said dallas is concerned that chad johnson wouldnt get along with owens. Carter cut him off and said who does? Who does get along with owens? Who gets along with any of their players.

And that is what he is repeating. It is completely ******** that people are agreeing with him.

If you think this team is losing because it doesnt have thugs then your an idiot. If you think the team is losing in the playoffs because the guys are too soft, then your an even bigger idiot. Maybe there is some missing attitude that needs to be changed, but to sit there and say the team lacks character is completely foolish.

I agree.

This team has some problems, no doubt about it.

My concern all last fall, even during the winning streak, was that this team still looked sloppy with the huge number of penalties, along with dropped passes, blown assignments and missed tackles.

This team has some leaders, but not near enough of them. That makes it a character issue.

Taking shots at Cris Carter isn't going to solve this problem.

Everyone can take the lead of the head coach and boastfully talk about going 13-3, or they can take an honest look at this team and see what needs to be done to win games in January.

Meh. I haven't seen any evidence that character has anything to do with it. Bringing in a toxic player like Adam Jones makes the character concern a legitimate question to raise, but it wasn't a problem for us last year.

Execution was a problem. One better route or one fewer dropped pass and we'd still be talking about what a great Super Bowl it was.

Chris Carter, though, deserves whatever he gets. Any analyst who can't consistently win an argument with Dan Marino is ipso-facto as dumb as a post. In this case, too, he's playing both sides saying we have character concerns and giving himself an out with Zach Thomas for when they don't materialize. Meanwhile, we make threads about his nonsense.

Everyone does that you know this. A few bad people at a party, it was a thug party even though the rest of the kids were good kids.

A policeman beats up a guy, so we blame the entire police force. We have a couple of guys on the team with character flaws, so what. We have a more than a couple of "butt-****s on this board, doesn't make everyone that way.

People do it all the time, no big deal. Let's kick some butt, get to the SB and win it, then we won't hear much more from the bushy browed friend. ;)

Carter goes to town on Cowboys

All day long, the Worldwide Leader has been flexing its considerable muscle -- through television, radio and the internet -- to promote its first set of power rankings for the 2008 season.

In doing so, the network had its analysts break down the list. One of the questions posed to them was "who is overrated?" You're not going to like former Buckeye great Cris Carter's answer.

"I think the Cowboys have a huge problem, and that is with character in the locker room," Carter said. "If the Cowboys season goes well, it's not going to be because of Pacman (Jones) transaction. It going to be because of another transaction that got little headlines, that's in Zach Thomas, because you need character to go with these characters on the field.

"He's gonna be some glue to keep some of those guys steady and focused towards the end of the season, when we have known the Dallas Cowboys to lose their foucs."

Just as that was said, someone chimed in with ... "13 wins, 13 Pro Bowl players, zero playoffs." Although just who it was escapes me right know.
Carter just reiterated his point on Sportscenter.

When asked the same question, he quickly said, "The Dallas Cowboys. The 'Boys. Thirteen Pro Bowls, 13 wins during the regular season. But also in the last two years, zero playoff wins. And my thing is people talk about Pacman joining this team, this circus, the most popular team, America's Team. But I concerned about the characters.

"And I believe the biggest transaction that was made this offseason was Zach Thomas because you need a character with some glue around these other characters down in Dallas."

So he feels pretty strongly about Pacman, Zach and glue.

Also, I'd like to applaud Mark Schlereth, who in a short explanation of why he ranks the Chargers No. 1 found a way to shoehorn the term "football team" in four times. Very impressive.

Countdown to those who say he's just speaking the truth...10....9....8...7...

reading this the most pertinent thing to me is the pervasiveness of exaggerating headline writing today; "goes to town", "slams." Give me a break, he did no such thing. I'm tired of all this excessiveness to peak your interest, just like the 400 times Ive heard tv news teasers in the last year saying "stay with us to hear the latest political attacks." Attacks? Pul-eeze.
Theyre just syaing something negative, it isnt an "attack"

C'mon guys! Can't take any criticism? This team has repeatedly collapsed down the stretch. I am not sure I buy the character critique, but lack of focus was a clear problem all year. Last year, despite all the talent and the 13 wins, the team was sloppy, committed too many penalties, couldn't get it together in the first quarter (sometimes the entire first half), sucked on kick coverage and all the while the coach made excuses for them. We cannot continue to do these things next season or we may not even sniff the playoffs. The teams in our division have improved from last year. It doesn't help that our coach never seemed to think there was any serious problem.

We are a very good team, but we also need to improve our focus and concentration if we are going to take the next step. Talent isn't the problem, attitude and focus are. Gurode is a pro-bowl center, but how many times did he snap the ball over Romo's head, forcing him to make a play? Crayton has hands of glue, except in the playoffs? These are focus issues, not talent issues. Outside of Barber, we now have all rookies in the backfield. Someone needs to step up and show these guys how to focus and concentrate down the stretch, not to eat the cheese about your record up to that point (our coach had a lot to do with that last year). :bang2:

What's wrong with Chris Carter's eyebrows? That is the big question! Are they for real or do the make-up people make him look like an idiot on purpose?

Yes, Carter has lots of room to talk.

He's a nobody now and all he can do is denigrate great teams.

Sooner or later someone would call us over rated. Might as well be Cris Carter. By mid season he could very well be calling us the best team in the NFL. By mid season people might be telling him he was right. Ya never know until they hit the field.

Pretty sure he's going to eat his words.

Since he's a solid old timer I hope these cats take it to heart and build on it. It's one thing to get ripped by a never was but when somebody like Chris tears into ya, you better wake up.

My money is on the alarm clock ringin:D

Exactly... thats why I said he is all over the place. Talk about the "bad" character players all you want... but to say there isnt any good character players just makes him sound full of cheet

Considering that Carter was a habitual cocaine user while being paid by the Vikings and required a 'second chance' I do not think that he is in any position to talk about lack of character in others. He is just showing how he lacks it himself.

Until this team makes a serious playoff run, the media and people in general will make up reasons for the lack of success be they coaching, chemistry, the GM, or GOD.

There's a lot more truth in that than in Wade insisting that we made it to the "second round."

Yeah, but don't you detect a hint of personal envy here?

Character doesn't win you games...talent does!

Just ask Zach Thomas and anybody from that Dolphins team last year.

With his knees, I'd be surprised if Thomas can even make it to the playoffs.

I also remember when Chris Carter was a character issue, not so much off the field but a high maintenance perpetual give me the ball complainer with the Vikes.
