Collinsworth had this to say about Ware yesterday when talking about this Thursday's game (nothing we didn't already know) --

"DeMarcus Ware in my opinion is one of the truly great young talents in the league. We tend in the media to follow statistics because there's really no way, short of it if you have my job. But where I get to see all the games on Sunday, typically I come back and watch most of the tapes of those games, the NFL Films version of those games later on in the week, and DeMarcus Ware is so much more than a pass rusher. He's a linebacker. He's a guy that if they come to his side of the field, more often than not he's making the tackle. I'm impressed with him in pass coverage, I'm impressed with him in playing off blockers, I'm impressed with him in rushing the quarterback. And without a doubt, the addition of Greg Ellis, or the return of Greg Ellis, has been a great asset for him, and for Greg Ellis vice versa obviously because they do have to pay so much attention to DeMarcus Ware."

"He in my mind is not a pass rusher. He is a linebacker who makes plays everywhere, and we'll be talking a lot about him during the game."

Thank God we didn't draft Merriman. Where would we be now.

We would be calling for Bobby Carpenter to get some reps...

I can't help but smile a bit when I think about Spencer on this defense, and how he will "hopefully" begin to have more of an impact as he gets more playing time under his belt. With the young guys that we now have at both DL & LB, and as we bring in some additional help for our secondary, our defense can become something very special.

As Adam said, we already knew this... The real question is what took the rest of the league so long to see it.

The word "freak" is thrown around way too much these days, but Ware really is one. His safety-like athleticism at 250+ pounds is amazing and truly rare.

The Tuna left behind some great players (in the making)! Every time I look at this roster and see the talent that the man has assembled the more I respect him as a "football" man, not just a coach! If they win it all this year maybe JJ will give him a ceremonial ring ;) !

And people were soooooooooooo upset that Parcells was trying to teach Ware to be a complete linebacker instead of just a pass rusher.

:D I was about to post that comment. I remember when Parcells said look I am trying to make the kid a LB.

I'm not so sure if there is any LB in NFL who is better all around LB than Ware.

I am not sure that there is a better DE than Ware is either. Since he does play that in the Nickle too.

The problem is, he was doing that at the expense of Ware being used effectively as a pass rusher. It is the aggressiveness that people were criticizing when it came Parcells.

Wade is allowing Ware to do all those things while being aggressive.

These people were envying Merriman's sack totals.

As Adam said, we already knew this... The real question is what took the rest of the league so long to see it.

Because we weren't winning and because Ware doesn't preen for the cameras after every big play. Don't you think Merriman's sack totals, the Chargers 14-2 record and his "look-at-me" sack dance had a lot to do with the attention he gets?

The Cowboys are now 10-1, which is forcing analysts to look at Dallas more closely and the players who are contributing to those 10 wins.

The league and fans are more impressed with sack totals, but I notice that Ware is in on pass coverage (remember him disrupting Marvin Harrison at the line of scrimmage preventing the Colts from tying the game last year), he's tiping passes in coverage (remember Newman's interception against the Bills), he's in on tackles (remember him dropping Brandon Jacobs behind the line on 4 and 1 last year) as well as him rushing the passer. Actually, I think his pass rush is the weakest aspect of his game. (He still needs to develop a spin move). But he's learning. He still has room to grow. I don't think he's even touched his dominance yet.

I agree, he did. But if he had had his way we would not have got Ware. Unlike Spears, Ware wouldn't have been there with our later pick

Good one! I always said I would rather have Ware, but Merriman is still a good player. Even if his #s are down this year.

Parcells does deserve credit for teaching Ware in the right way. I didn't like BP's scheme but he did develop Ware into a complete player and it's paying off now.
