Because we weren't winning and because Ware doesn't preen for the cameras after every big play. Don't you think Merriman's sack totals, the Chargers 14-2 record and his "look-at-me" sack dance had a lot to do with the attention he gets?

The Cowboys are now 10-1, which is forcing analysts to look at Dallas more closely and the players who are contributing to those 10 wins.

The league and fans are more impressed with sack totals, but I notice that Ware is in on pass coverage (remember him disrupting Marvin Harrison at the line of scrimmage preventing the Colts from tying the game last year), he's tiping passes in coverage (remember Newman's interception against the Bills), he's in on tackles (remember him dropping Brandon Jacobs behind the line on 4 and 1 last year) as well as him rushing the passer. Actually, I think his pass rush is the weakest aspect of his game. (He still needs to develop a spin move). But he's learning. He still has room to grow. I don't think he's even touched his dominance yet.

No doubt about it... A few years ago when the Eagles walked all over the rest of the crappy NFCE, three of four from their secondary made the Pro Bowl. Now, not so much.

But I agree -- Demarcus hasn't even reached his potential yet. People think Newman will be expensive? Ware will break the bank.

Collinsworth wrote this 10 days before Romo replaced Bledsoe in the second half of the Giants game last year:

"Backup quarterback Tony Romo has the speed and agility to avoid sacks and make plays on the move. He also has good arm strength and makes good decisions. I watched a lot of tape of him this preseason and didn't see any reason he can't play quarterback in the NFL. Playing Romo, instead of Bledsoe, would also open up the Cowboys' playbook. Romo's mobility would allow them to run more rollouts, which could take some of the pressure off the offensive line. They could also send their talented tight ends, Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano, out on pass routes more, rather than having to use them to help out the offensive tackles."

I've always liked Collinsworth. He'll tell it like it is, no BS'ing or overhyping anyone.

So have I, though I've been nearly tarred and feathered for saying it. I'm not sure why so many people find him so annoying. I always thought he did a good job in the booth with Troy and the baseball-frustrated Joe Buck.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but I like Collinsworth's articles alot better than his on-screen analysis. His voice annoys me. He may very well repeat what he wrote in an article, but he sounds so smarmy that I have to mute him.

That's probably what gets most people. He is an arrogant SOB. But it doesn't bother me, because he's usually right.

I like him, and agree that he is an acquired taste, but as far as smarm and arrogance, he doesn't hold a candle to Joe Buck.

I am a fan of collinsworth, he is one of only a few analysts who are willing to admit mistakes and does not have an agenda.

he is great on inside the nfl.

As good as Ware is right now I think Ellis is a little better. Ellis definitely does not have Ware's talent but I think he is a little better player right now. Ware is scary. I keep saying wait another three years. When he completes his complement of moves and learns to finish his pass rush, he will be truly scary. Scarier would be better.

Ellis might be a better pass rusher but he has benefited from teams focusing their blocking on Ware.

There is no way I would agree that Ellis is a better OVERALL player.

Collinsworth had this to say about Ware yesterday when talking about this Thursday's game (nothing we didn't already know) --

"DeMarcus Ware in my opinion is one of the truly great young talents in the league. We tend in the media to follow statistics because there's really no way, short of it if you have my job. But where I get to see all the games on Sunday, typically I come back and watch most of the tapes of those games, the NFL Films version of those games later on in the week, and DeMarcus Ware is so much more than a pass rusher. He's a linebacker. He's a guy that if they come to his side of the field, more often than not he's making the tackle. I'm impressed with him in pass coverage, I'm impressed with him in playing off blockers, I'm impressed with him in rushing the quarterback. And without a doubt, the addition of Greg Ellis, or the return of Greg Ellis, has been a great asset for him, and for Greg Ellis vice versa obviously because they do have to pay so much attention to DeMarcus Ware."

"He in my mind is not a pass rusher. He is a linebacker who makes plays everywhere, and we'll be talking a lot about him during the game."

i think you have to at least include him in a discussion of DPOY.

OK. I won't really argue as they both are very good. I do think Ellis is better right now but he's as good as he's gonna get. Ware will get better. He will become a better football player and will start getting more sacks. He's just a little too one dimensional with his pass rush right now for me. And I'm not being critical as he is a terrific player with tremendous pass rushing ability. He's just not finishing enough and getting taken out on too many plays where he gets close...but no cigar. I'm just not saying this like I want but hopefully you get my idea.

I'm not trying to egg you on, but why exactly do you think Ellis is better? you never really explained how
