Chris Covington thoughts

This Chris Covington passes the eye test for sure -- a very physical specimen and a LB who should be a demon on special teams. He'll probably be a good one in a year or two when he gains further development and gets familiar with the system. He's just raw at this time.

You mispelled "When Damien Wilson asks for a big contract".

Just kidding, I totally agree. You can really see the movement skills, give him time in the system and he could be a good player at SAM.

I'm glad we were able to keep him. We were going to go long at wr or lb. Good choice.

This really says it all. They fall in love with players and draft them too high and keep them on the roster after they don’t do anything to earn it. Meanwhile a player like Lenoir busted his tail all offseason and showed he can be a legitimate NFL WR. Forget the punt return stuff. He would never be a PR and was only there so Austin or Beasley didn’t get hurt. Lenoir showed the work ethic and improvement that should be what defines RKG. Not keeping the best 53 you can is not a recipe to winning in th NFL. Lenoir earned a spot over Covington, Brown, and a few others.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Lenoir has no hope of ever playing wide receiver here with the players in front of him, and he made too many mental errors on special teams. Covington competed and beat Lenoir our precisely because of his special teams play.

By the way, Lenoir was resigned to the practice squad so he’s available to bring up if need be.

Going heavy at lb also suggests we'll see different defensive schemes than we've seen in the past. I certainly hope so.

Barring any injuries, this defense will be solid up the middle and a bunch of hitters.

Gotta admit I was surprised that Covington was kept as a 7th LB rather then trying to get him to the PS. I'm guessing they see him on the active 45 and playing special teams.

Lee has injury history, Thomas and March-Lillard are in their 220s. Depth makes sense.

Also made sense to go long at LB with so few safeties and corners.

Lenoir isn't a top WR, so he needed to show up no special teams. He's been bobbling balls on returns for two preseasons in a row now.

He's got neither size nor speed. His ceiling is as PS reserve WR, who you wouldn't cry if you had to call him up and put him in the game. He has reached his ceiling.
