yup. defensive end is now a need for them so i doubt long makes it out of there without a contract

Nah. They have two guys at end already. Long was a depth signing behind two capable ends, possible starter if he had some crazy return to fame.

That's the difference. The guy they just inquired on being their emergency backup could actually end up starting here the entire 9 games he'll play before he gets injured again

I looked at some of his games and his work at the combine closely. He just looked a bit clumsy to me and not that fluid.
He may be strong as an ox but, he just looks like a bull rusher who might get shut down once these big tackles get their
hands on him.

I guess it's all perspective. When I watched his game work, I saw a player who had great hand technique and great footwork to fake one direction and go the other. That's Bosa's strength IMO and what's made him effective. He doesn't have the kind of burst to blow by linemen off the snap, but he gets a lineman going one way, uses his momentum against him and beats him going the other way, then he shows a burst to the QB and hits him with power.

He can bull rush, but most of the plays I saw him make were through using his hands and his feet to outmove the offensive lineman he was facing: a quick swim move here, a feint inside or outside there.

Word is Patriots traded Chander Jones thinking they would get Chris Long so he leaves and doesn't wait for tomorrow and is on his way to Dallas today. Sign him up Jerry can't let him go like you did Forte and Weddle. Or should I say sign him up Stephen.

In the pros, OT's will see this too. If they know he cant beat them with speed around the edge, those feints wont work against bigger, stronger, more athletic OT's. Unless you are Reggie White or JJ Watt, neither will bull rushes. Pass on Bosa.

Don't let this guy leave without a contract we need a body at DE. Right now our other starter is Ryan Russell by default.

Our pass rush is looking like a complete joke at this point...........if we don't sign Long and we pass on Bosa..............yikes.

And for some perspective, we were last in the entire NFL in 4th quarter and OT sacks. When it came down to crunch time, our pass rush was MIA and that was with Hardy. Take Hardy away and don't add anybody of any significance, why would those numbers go up?

So no pass rush and both Mo and Carr returning from their zero pick performances last year.............this is looking like a complete disaster on defense.

We really need to sign Long, word is he is eating dinner with the coaches tonight.

I don't know. There have been plenty of pass rushers who have succeeded without great speed. There have been several articles I've read lately that point out that the guys who often succeed are the ones who are relentless, not the ones with the greatest first step. In fact, a lot of the time teams fall in love with that quick guy but all he has is one move to the outside using speed and he never develops into good pro pass rusher, because the good left tackles are also quick.

I'm not saying that to say we should take Bosa, only that we can't put them all into a stereotypical box because the league has shown that it doesn't work that way.

Agree. Check Suggs, Allen, Strahan just to name a few.....
