They still got expiring contracts.

Chandler and Caron will expire next year. And we have a 6 million trade exception too.

Yea but Paul is on a 2 year deal himself. Thats not a huge help to them. The Mavs only shot was using Damps non guaranteed expiring. That way you can take on Okafor and also break it down into 2 deals to give them $6M.

The Lakers covet Paul.

The way this trade breaks down is:

Lakers get - Chris Paul

Hornets get - Odom, Vujacic, Blake and Ebanks.

The cap works and the contracts are friendly enough for the Hornets to work with if they decide to go another direction.

This could happen.

Thats awful

They need salary relief more than anything. They are taking on more money in this deal and are only getting back an older Odom and Blake.

The Magic, Blazers, and Nets could easily top that offer.

Did someone really say Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter for Chris Paul?

Ohmylanta...

Haha....that'd be the worst trade in NBA history.

Anyone that takes on Chris Paul in a trade also would have to be able to absorb Emeka Okafor's terrible contract.

Hello New York Knicks - they love bad contracts. I still think the Wizards will trade Gilbert Arenas to the Knicks befire it's all said and done.

Won't work. Can't trade Blake since he just signed. December 15th is the first day LA could trade him.

The flexibility of contracts are what is driving this deal. Also, the fact that the Hornets would receive 3 Starting Quality players and one highly thought of developmental player in return.

According to reports, Paul will not play another game in a Hornets uniform.

Odom is the only one that is going to start on a decent team. Vuj is a scrub and the other two are marginal.

I can come up with contracts that will match on every team.

You are apparantly confused here. I never said that the Hornets would accept such a scenario, I simply corrected a person that stated Orlando had no way of making a trade work with the Hornets.

The fact is that the Magic and Blazers actually discussed trade scenarios with the Hornets a month ago. One of Orlando's proposals was Carter/Nelson for Paul and one of the bad contracts that the Hornets desperately want to unload (Okafor and Posey). There were also discussions of Orlando including either Bass or Gortat and taking Okafor and Posey in return. The discussions died when the Hornets decided to take Paul off the table.

By the way, Vince Carter is an appealing piece because his 17.5 million dollar contract can almost 100% be wiped off the books at the end of the season.

Well, as I said earlier, they would have it. They would be trading 4 salaries for 1 and gaining two to three starters with one very promising young player and a very reasonable salary as well. They would have cap relieve because they would be able to cut other salaries. In addition, the contracts for Vu, and Odam are all ending soon. I mean, the financial part of this is not hard to understand.

Give it up, dude.

He's not that far off, actually. Terence Williams has been getting a ton of interest as a result of his summer league play. He's an interesting prospect, that's for sure. Favors is a top prospect in this draft. And 3 1sts are always assets. It also gives NO cap relief in taking on West's contract. That's if NO looks to move him...

Also... deals regarding NO for Paul... IF Paul were to be moved, I doubt NO is going to be requiring a PG. They could move him and start Collison at PG. In fact, if they do move Paul, I suspect its with the intention of turning it over to Collison. I doubt NO would want Harris from NJ, for example.

New Orleans is not giving away two of their franchise building blocks for cap relief. Knock it off.

Other than Odom, none of them are starters. Please stop.

Re-read what I wrote. "That's IF they look to move him." Not that hard of a concept, really.

Actually, Blake is a starter. The Lakers intend to have him as their starting PG if he is not moved. Vujacic, depending on the offense he is in, could be a starter. He shoots nearly 40% off the bench. He is a streaky shooter. He's 6'7, in the right offense, he could start. I don't know that I would say he could not start.

Vuj was constantly in Jackson's doghouse for very good reason. He has started 12 games in 6 years. He is not a starter.

They were going to start him before Fisher resigned because they had not other choice. Fisher is back.

Blake starts on very bad teams when people get hurt. He can shoot the three but his defense is putrid and he does not run the pick and roll well at all because he cannot penetrate. You just hedge a bit with the big and go over the screen. Hes injury prone. Sure he started for Portland but they replaced him with Andre 'Spare' Miller and he only started in Washington because Arenas is a walking MASH unit.

Odom is the definition of inconsistent. Your trade proposal makes as much sense as Marc Gasol and a first for Pau so maybe West and Stern can serve that one up for you guys too.

If they look to movce him they are going to want a young up and coming player in return. Cap relief might sweeten the deal but they are not going to just give him away.
