ND is Kelly's dream job. So why wouldn't he drop Cinncy to go to where he wants to be ? That's like get upset at a college player for leaving school early for the NFL....can't have it both ways guys.

Except in college you make nothing if you dont play for USC.

Some of those kids in Cincy were in tears

I beleive one of those championships for Alabama was the one in 73 when UPI made them champions before the bowls (UPI did its final poll before the bowls then-why no one has ever really explained) and Alabama was then beaten in the Sugar Bowl by Notre Dame. That is one reason why this NC thing is so confusing. For a long time there were 6-8 different sports organizations/news services/whatever that each declared a NC.

I agree. I also think it is better today with the BCS system than it was then but like most feel a playoff system needs to be put in place.

exactly why National Championships at the D-1 level cannot be the be all end all of how successful a program is. Cause year in and year out, some team gets shafted....So you have to go be other criteria as well....

Total Wins, Winning Percentage, National Championships, Bowl Wins, # of Winning Seasons. This gives you a total barometer of the success of a football program over the long haul.

I agree I would also throw in strength of schedule. When a program is facing top ranked opponents throughout their season due to being is a top conference it should account for a lot. I hate to take away from the work of Boise St. but the fact is outside of Oregon they played no one. When you are constantly under the pressure of being up vs top team it is a much tougher road to go down

strength of schedule is important for sure. Everyone raves about the non BCS schools but as Colin Cowherd said, the second place team in one of their conferences was Nevada and they lost by 35 to a bad Notre Dame team.

I'd have to disagree with this. Full ride scholarships to a d1 school for four years good easily range from 200k to 350k. With room and board included. So you may want to rethink the whole college players don't get paid routine. Because they do. Unless of course they don't get scholarships but who cares about those scrubs?
