At least Parnell has some athletic ability and upside. We could potentially luck into something there.

I am not bagging on Parnell. for what he is paid he can play at a moderate to low level and be fine. My biggest issue would then be OL depth. We'd have zero.

Free is a solid swing OT for someone because he sucks equally at LT and RT but I can't see paying him big money for that distinction. I'd much rather have Parnell hold down that job and bring in a proven RT.

I am an RCG guy for sure but when I think of Free at RT making 8 mil I get overcome with nausea.

I see some pretty suspect conclusions here.

These are the facts of the situation.

1. We've asked Free to take a pay cut.
2. Cutting him now accelerates 10 million in dead money onto the salary cap. (I'm not even sure we're allowed to cut him now).
3. Cutting him in June will prorate the cap hit.
4. We've talked to Winston and Clabo.
5. Designating Free a June 1st cut does nothing to bring that money to us now.

Based on all of this, I suspect that the Cowboys are waiting until June to do anything with Free (because I would figure they have no other choice).

Why are they waiting?

Well let's ponder that. We have about 5 million dollars right now.

If Eric Winston wants 3-4 million dollars per year. And assuming he doesn't want a one year deal. How much does this guy want in signing bonus. We're looking a pretty significant cap hit.

I don't think it would necessarily be impossible, so perhaps it also is about trying to drive Winston or Clabo's price down. Perhaps they are waiting for one to sign with Miami first, leaving the other with less options.

But I don't think they have plans on starting Parnell. Or even Free.

There are a lot of guys available and we'll settle RT at some point in the near future. There are at least 5 guys out there with experience as a starting RT.

If the Dolphins grab Clabo instead of Albert then that just means Albert becomes best available with a price that has to be dropping in trade commodity.

Dallas could very well still go Winston for the 3.5m a year figure after releasing Free and basically break even the next two years on the cap.

Pretty far form time to panic at RT.

Although if the choice is Free vs Parnell during training camp I will panic.

Might as well get that Panic Room fully stocked before the rush. I will be absolutely shocked if we sign anyone else to increase our OL options. Instead, you will hear Valley Ranch in full spin-mode about continuity, coaching, technique improvement, etc. turning our OL into "a position of strength" (now where have I heard that line before?). Until the first couple of games into the new season when it will become apparent that we have improved one spot (Frederick) and now only have 3 weak links instead of 4.

Championship!!!:lmao:

Actually I think my analysis was also a bit off on at least one point.

They could cut doug free now, and still be under the cap.

His cap hit is exactly equal to the amount of dead money that would accelerate into the cap.

Still I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to do that.

From what I understand cutting him June first accelerates 3.02 million onto the cap this year, and an additional seven million next year.

That saves us 7 million this year, and 4 million next year.

Even if Free takes a pay cut to the vet minimum his presence on the roster would still be too much salary cap wise.

I think, the staff would ideally like to only add Frederick, and just have Free take a pay cut, and battle with Parnell for the starting RT job. While staying as the swing tackle incase Tyron Smith gets hurt.

Bingo:mad: IMO this is the ultimate plan. What you see now is what you get.

Romo stated that we needed to beef up the interior of our line and that tackle was not big of a priority because of his ability to move and step up in the pocket. How would you guys feel if we go after Moore to play Guard and let free and Parnell battle it out?

RT was the worst spot on our line last season.

I see no reason to have faith in Free's ability. its been down hill the last two seasons for him, paycut or not. they must be high on parnell.

I don't recall Romo ever saying that. I think you might be thinking about Broaddus.

When has anyone in the front office or the coaches suggested Parnell might start this year? Talk about the echo chamber working overtime.

Folks, we're going to reduce Free or let him go.

Or

We're going to sign who is left over of Clabo and Winston.

Get it?

Having Free as a starting RT for next year would be a slap in the face to every Cowboy fan.

Even if Free takes the veteran minimum this year and next year he would still be counting 3.75 million against the cap.

It's clear he can't start, and it's clear that that is too much money for a backup.

I've been saying since the end of the season that I would not be surprised to see Free on the roster the first day of camp. Contrary to what most of us believe, I think the Cowboys have hope that he will improve. :(

If we don't sign Clabo or Winston, another route you could go is signing Brandon Moore and letting Parnell anchor the Right Tackle job.

The rationale in that move is bringing in a seasoned veteran to play guard, a position in which players generally take a while to develop, and let Parnell, play tackle, a position where you certainly need technique and brains, but athleticism and strength can make up for mistakes more so than in the interior.

Also, strengthening the interior makes sense because Romo has a knack for finding time and eluding rushers, but there's not much to evade when there's pressure in your face every snap.

I would like Moore at RG.
