Having Free as a starting RT for next year would be a slap in the face to every Cowboy fan.

This is so true. Every Cowboy fan saw how awful Free was last yr. if he is starting its a slap in the face. Upgrade the RT. even a avg player would be a big improvement

When has anyone in the front office or the coaches suggested Parnell might start this year? Talk about the echo chamber working overtime.

they havent, just conjecture. I just dont see how they stomach trotting free out there fir another season when he has obviously lost it.

I think the front office has made clear overtures towards upgrading that position. Contact with both Clabo and Winston signals that. I expect either to be signed until they are signed to other teams.

I wish I shared this optimism. I think the "contact" with Clabo and Winston is nothing more than a negotiating tactic to lower Free's renegotiated deal price tag. I don't think Jerry's ego will allow him to accept that he made such an expensive mistake resigning Free and wants to give him another chance with Parnell as his only competition. So sad for us.

That's because you're naturally pessimistic. The reality is that they don't need to negotiate with Winston/Clabo in order to force Free to reduce his contract. Free has zero leverage from the get go.

Did Jerry's ego allow him to cut Hamlin? Barber? You're writing your own narrative.

Free does have leverage if we don't have an affordable replacement for him. And he knows what a starting RT makes, about 4-5 million per. So he can draw a line in the sand at 3.5 million or so per and force Jerry's hand.

And Hamlin and Barber weren't in the second year of a very lucrative deal when they were cut. Cutting Free is a colossal admission of Jerry's misjudgment.

But I hope you are right and that the interest is genuine. Free needs to go and Clabo for 2 affordable years until Parnell is fully ready would be ideal.

I agree with the article, once one of the two (Winston or Clabo) signs with another team our position is weakened. I personally would give Clabo 4 million per year, designate Free a June 1st cut and be done with it.

These guys must just be asking for far more than anyone's willing to pay, considering Winston visited the Dolphins and now they've moved on to Clabo.

I don't know if Miami signing one will just set the price for the other or give him some leverage to stick with whatever his demands are.
