Report: No setbacks for Morris Claiborne, could return soon

A bit of good news could be on the way forMorris Claiborne and the Dallas Cowboys.

Per Mike Leslie of WFAA Channel 8 in Dallas, the veteran cornerback is on schedule with the rehabilitation from his groin injury and could see the field again before the conclusion of the 2016 regular season.

This would be just what the doctored ordered for a Cowboys team that gave up 449 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to Commanders quarterback Kirk Cousins on Thanksgiving.

Claiborne has been out since Oct. 30 when he suffered a groin injury versus the Philadelphia Eagles. He has since avoided surgery as the team has taken more of a wait-and-see approach up to this point.

Recently the fifth-year veteran himself stated the injury is actually a portion of his pelvic bone which had broken off, but stated he was advised it should heal on its own.

I doubt it, Hawkeye. Fish just reported on The Fan that there is no timetable for his return, if at all.

He's pulled a piece of bone off the pelvis likely (no X-ray seen by me) the symphysis. You want that bone attached to the muscle to heal to the bone in a bony union. It's possible there will be fibrous tissue including scar tissue between the pieces of bone forming a fibrous union which is not as strong over the long run. Might not make any difference though.

Not exactly good news, since he's just saying the 4-6 week injury timeline we were already given could be anywhere from 4-8 weeks (assuming he comes back at the last week of the season at the latest). Either way, I'd feel a lot better about this defense with Mo back and playing like he did earlier in the season. I just have a hard time trusting that that's at all likely.

About the only teams I worry about beating us in postseason are ATL and WAS at this point. Another talented cover CB would be a nice bit of insurance.

If we cant rush the passer, we're gonna have to smother the recievers and Claiborne is critical to that strategy. Never wouldve thought that Morris Claiborne would be a major key to our playoff success, but this season has been full of surprises.

Hopefully everyone will be ready and firing on all cylinders by the end of the year.

Didn't sound like he is playing for a long time.

He'll most likely be back before the start of the playoffs. With Church back, that should help a lot in the middle of the field with tackling.

I agree. I like Fish and he does know some things but he is not the "exclusive, exclusive" guy he wishes he could be.

I only listen to him when he trys to decode Jerry speak; he is good at that.

When you say 'might not make any difference,' are you saying the fibrous union might be sufficient? Or neither might be?

And are we in a comfortable time horizon here of 4-9 weeks for adequate healing for something as nasty-sounding as this is? With Mo, I'm concerned both that he won't heal fast enough with a soft tissue injury, and that, if he has to come back while still compromised, that it'll mess with his head a bit. The reporting of this whole thing has made me cringe from the get-go. I hate being depending on soft (sorry, Mo) players at positions of significant need.
