Claiborne...

Which play was that?

Has my memory gotten foggy? Was that Scandrick I'm thinking of? Cruz beat us bad on some really crucial downs.

Not that either side is necessarily right or wrong, but just because it's a "passing league" doesn't mean loading up on corners and, frankly, neglecting your pass rush (which we have done, whether intentionally or not) is the best way to counteract that. Many teams have proven throughout the years that the best way to counteract a high-flying passing game is to get to the QB and knock him around.

I understand the logic in different theories. I think we try to dump a cornerback currently on our roster though. Scandrick has a large contract too.

Teams have to actually think before just throwing it up

They will have alot of time to think if we don't improve our pass rush.

Not sure this wasn't a reach at this spot, and I am not a fan of our salary management at the CB position.

What's done is done, hope he has a spectacular career here.

When the trade was announced I immediately thought that was WAY too high for Barron, so I didn't think he was in play at 6. Then I got to thinking...it has to be for either Cox, or Claiborne.... and I thought it has to be Claiborne, and it was.

I think we had to address corner in the first two rounds, or corner was gonna cost us a bundle again next year. I just thought we would have to go corner in 2.

If Claiborne really is the highest rated corner since Deion, then the trade will prove to be a good decision. But the opportunity cost of the trade may cost us Glenn or Konz. In all likelihood if we had drafted DeCastro at #14(who fell farther than I expected) we might have been able to draft Konz or Glenn and even moved up to do so by giving up maybe a 5th rounder. Is Claiborne more valuable than DeCastro AND Konz or DeCastro and Glenn? I don't know. Time will tell.

He was the top defensive player I wanted... had no idea he was on our board in any way...

Excellent pick... yes he cost us a lot, but he is flat out bluechip aterial...

Liquor Store Guy was right... Jenkins is gone...

To be honest, TrickBlue,

When I saw Dallas move up to the #6 spot, I thought for sure they gave up a 1st round pick next year.

So to only give up this year's 2nd round pick, I am truly elated!

I don't think carr is blue chip. I think we have propped him up a bit.
finally, some true wisdom.
But Claiborne looks to be the real deal.
Well done Jerra.

Statistically speaking, Carr is a top 5-10 corner in the league. Does that not make him blue chip?

I'm shocked... I've been muttering all day, "I can't believe it.":laugh2:

Oh, when I saw that ESPN ticker show us at #6, I was like oh no, what did we give up...Then it kept going and showed us at #14 still. I let out a breath. Then it came back around. I was like, oh hell yeah, just don't cost too much.

I was thinking to move that far up we were going to see a third, fourth, and sixt or something along those lines, or next year's first like you mentioned.

Which stats? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just interested.

Targets, receptions, and yards on a per play basis.

From what I've been reading, the Rams contacted the Cowboys about a serious trade possibility at noon. Basic talks with a bunch of the teams had been going on before this, of course. But then, when Blackmon went ahead of them, the Rams got the Cowboys on the phone and were willing to make a reasonable trade.

This meshes up with the info about the Cowboys not really talking to Claiborne -- because they really thought they didn't have much of a chance to get him. Don't think this was a very often run draft simulation at Valley Ranch.

Bet the war room was a'buzzing all afternoon.

I wonder if Liquor Store guy gets a job at ESPN for this one.

I think that's the way Ed Werder got his start...

All I know is after the pick I drove to five liquor stores trying to find the guy to get some day two info.

I spent 151.23 on booze and now have a DUI.

I think the DMN is cheaper.

I laughed... good stuff...

I don't care about the definition of blue chip, all I know is the Boys needed cornerback help badly, and they went out and got the best corner available in free agency, then they turned around and got the best corner available in the draft...

Works for me...

:)...oh, and can you now define works for me, so we all can understand....;)

Top twenty percent already in the NFL at the position works for me as well. Nobody was challenging him being at the top of the list in free agency this off season. LOL

I love the pick, love the pick, love the pick. Oh yeah ..... I love the pick!!

I must have been under a rock. I just read in DMN that Claiborne ran a 4.39 40 at his pro day. Plus he can hit and run back kicks? Totally worth moving up to get him in my book.

He comes from the best conference in college FB. First team All-American. I think he was worth trading up for and I would even pay to see him go against Dez everyday at practice. They will make each other better.

By the way, that 4.39 speed may be just fast enough to run down the dog killa. :)
