Shouldn't the topic of pedophiles be in the off-topic zone?
Unless someone is really twisted and thinks it's a sport:(

If that pedophile is a major SPORTS figure and the allegation is another major SPORTS figure knew about it but did not deem it important enough to stop, and it occurred at a major SPORTS institution, why does it not belong in the SPORTS zone?

Paterno is an icon and its a shame they try to smear his legacy.

And why exactly is he an icon, because he won more football games than anyone else? Sorry, but that doesn't make one an icon. Great coach sure, from a strictly football perspective. HOF coach, sure. But for every young man's life who turned around, there seems to be one who he stood by and allowed horrific things to happen to. That's not an icon. Exposing Sandusky at the risk of your own reputation would have been iconic, but not this...

To each his own, I guess.

No, but it does imply that Paterno was at best willingly ignorant to what was happening...which is very close to the truth imo.

As shocking as this may sound, and I am by no means saying this is right, times were different back then. There was a guy that lived three doors down from us (this was in the early 70's and I was 5 years old) and all the parents told us kids to never swim in his pool or hang out with him because "he likes to play with little boys". They were never alarmist in how they said this either, it was more matter of fact, like when they said "be sure to look both ways before you cross the street" (as they were all sitting around drinking a cocktail and blowing cigarette smoke everywhere). All the parents still hung out with him and would have dinners and get togethers at his house.

Always thought that was strange as hell so its not a stretch to think Paterno might have had a similar blasé attitude about this issue.

the problem is, this 1976 alleged incident is just the most recent to come to light. he was made aware of incidents in the 90s and did nothing more than report it to an AD and school president that answered to him. he had several chances to do the right thing but never did.

right, if true, its probably because he held the view my parents did or the reasons could be more nefarious. Its really odd.

I don't think it's nefarious in the sense that he was guilty of the same crime, I just think it was one of the those things were the longer you lie, the harder it is to tell the truth. If he had reason to believe this was happening in the 70s and 80s and did nothing, then he knew the incident in the 90s would have ruined him, just like it did when the dam finally broke and the truth came out a few years ago. He was willingly ignorant because he knew he was wrong and that's what he hoped to never face.

Just like you have no personal knowledge that this accusation is only about money.

actually, it is a money dispute, it is a lawsuit between PSU and an insurance company. You only have lawsuits between insurers and their insured over money.

Your initial claim was that the victims sole reason for these accusations was to get money. This lawsuit was not brought by the victims.
