CLEMENTS TO NINERS
A fan site known as ***NOT-ALLOWED***.com reports that Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports that the 49ers have signed or are in the process of signing cornerback Nate Clements.
However, no such story currently appears on Bengals.com.
With all that said, we have reason to believe that the report is on the money. Stay tuned.

Why is a 49ers fan page getting info from a guy at BENGALS about this guy...just odd.

Hmm, are the 49ers returning to the age of DUMB like they and the Cowboys did in the mid 90s?

I have faith we'll get something done, and are planning for that, but there is a possibility, based on his age and such, and length of current contract, that when that time comes, we let him walk. Just a possibility.

This is likely bad for the league as it establishes a new level of compensation. Just watch other free agents up their demands in the coming days. An inflated market would be bad news for everybody. This is, of course, predicated on this story being true.

Wow. Seems like Freeney's request for 30 million isn't that crazy.

But that is what more cap room gets you.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that 23M dollar figure - Newman is gonna break the bank.

As long as the Cowboys don't get stupid in signing high priced free agents, the no. Spend the money to keep your home grown talent and draft well and you will always be a good team. The draft is the teams life blood. With Parcells gone, lets pray we don't return to the the drafts of the late 90s and early 2000s.

How is it bad for the league if the owners who are richer than god have to give more of their cash to the guys that we actually watch?

Agreed. Newman will be 30 when he hits FA.

Dunno if I would want to spend $23 million in SB on a CB that is going to be 30....

Huge contracts are not a problem when players earn them -- Newman earns it, so no problem.
