Smith and Mickens went to Cincinnati. Smith is from Columbus, Ohio and Mickens is also from Ohio.

No clue what you're talking about with their relation to CT unless they're just grouped by association of the Big East with UConn, which is a ridiculous reach.
it was a typo, campo coached at cincy a while back

I'm almost 100% positive he never coached at Cincinnati.

Yep, you're right.
I don't remember from where, but around the time of the draft I remember hearing he had ties to Cincy...
Oh well.

I know I am a homer, but I still can't believe we took DeAngelo over Macho Harris. Who just happens to be the starting FS for the Eagles.
Listening to WIP in Philadelphia, they are worried that teams will pick on Harris, so the jury is still out.

I was going on my recollection of what Brad Sham was saying during the draft, I should have checked the error is mine. But the connection is likely Campo's familiarity w/the Big East. I don't see how that is so ridiculous.

Sham (and others) pointed out that Campo stumped for the Smith pick regardless. The personal connection is tangential.

I will try to see if I can find that snippet again.

I said it was ridiculous because Campo never coached at UConn, or in the Big East. The closest he got to UConn was coaching for Central Connecticut State University and also Bridgeport.

It's all good, I was moreso curious if I had missed something or what. Campo has no relation or connections with Mickens/Smith at all, so to act like the only reason we made those picks were because of his connections is just off-base, that's all.

Ciskowski's scouts had ranked Scandrick as a first day pick. And Jenkins was universally acknowledged as a first rounder, many even thought top 3 corner.

Smith was pumped up by Campo, who bragged that he stood on the table for Jerry to take him. Both Smith and Mickens come from Campo's old stomping grounds, Connecticut.

Campo sucks.
You didn't answer the question.

And Campo is pretty well regarded in defensive circles. It reeks of an axe to grind to say he's awful as a talent evaluator. Clearly coached some pretty decent talent.

I admit, I dislike Campo, as a coach (seems likeable enough otherwise). His tenure as HC had something to do with it. But guys like Charles Haley and Ryan McNeil were not high on his coaching ability. Deion and Woodson absolutely love him.

What I see is that Campo did not cut it as a HC in Dallas, a DC in Cleveland, or even as a secondary coach in Jacksonville. So clearly his 'star' as a coach does not shine that brightly. And I do have an axe to grind, I would have preferred to bring in a coach who was on the rise, not on the decline. So, yes, I am biased, but not blind.

Campo's talent evaluation and development is on display for any to see during his days as the Cowboys HC. How many of those players ever went on to be worth anything? Especially the position group that was his forte, the defensive backs. He hit on jack. Other than Roy Williams, a consensus top 10 pick, the players of his era were as dismal as their record. He was not just bad, he was HISTORICALLY bad.

And just to bring it back on topic, I will find that bit of Campo pushing for the Smith pick. Like I said, I am biased, not blind.

But maybe a little deaf.

I would let that WR from Oklahoma go honestly... He's shown nothing really, I like Holley's upside more.

I didnt see much of Johnson, but he looked ok.

Hes a better prospect.

Im in the middle w/ Holley. I dont think hes w/o talent, but I doubt he ever even becomes a JAG
