Its one thing if the skins want him in DC- Its a COMPLETELY different story if Portis wants to be in DC. By the sound of things it doesnt sound like he does.

Well Danny can always buy CP that wide screen tv he threatened to sit Lav Coles in front of for two years, when Coles wanted out.

Sounds like CP wants out as well.

They made a nice commitment to Betts and quickly I might add. I also wouldn't put it past them to try to re-sign Duckett to get something out of that terrible trade.

I would not be surprised a bit if he is pulling the Lavar Arrington act to see if he can push his way out as well.

Gibbs already has stated many times that "Portis is our guy for 07" and that Betts will be the back up so that settles that problem. Portis just told it like it is and shouldn't get hassled too much for it.

Besides isn't it better to have a great 1-2 punch is Portis/Betts, than a sorry one is Betts/Duckett, or Betts/Cartwright since Duckett is a UFA?

And Betts has a serious fumbling problem. Cost us two games. The Rams game and the Giants game.

Yes it is, exactly why he will be here next year.

Take that to the bank.

But you forget... Gibbs is a dirty stinkin liar.

And I dare you to say Portis was a product of the Denver system, I dare you.

You would get rammed straight into the ground buddy.

Goodnite. :lmao2:
:laugh2: He's a product of the system. He's a very good running back, but guys like Tatum Bell, Mike Anderson, and Rueben Droughns have gone for a thousand in Denver. I doubt any of them could start for any other team than the ones they're with now. Portis is obviously better than those guys, but CP's success in Denver and his average play in Washington makes it pretty clear that he is what he is: a good back, but not a great one.

It's pretty telling that Betts averaged more yards per carry (by a mile) in Portis' place than CP has since he got to Washington.

A top 5 back? Maybe, just barely. He's in a category with a bunch of other guys. He's a very good running back, but LT, LJ, Tiki Barber, and Alexander are all better, and a case could be made that James, Gore, and Jackson are as well. And a lot of other guys are up and coming. Unless you're talking about a super-elite talent like LT, RBs just aren't that hard to find. Dallas got by with a couple of pretty average guys in Jones and Barber, and Washington did better with a guy in Betts who probably couldn't start anywhere else.

I don't care about Barber III

I know ya'll are going to bash me and everything and say that Jones/Barber is better than CP/Betts but I could care less,

Yup Barber did nothing this year.

It's couldn't care less, lean English fool.

This organization is in complete shambles right now. It is unbelievable how a professional franchise can become so disfunctional.

With that said, I can't believe portis would come out and do something like this. There are obvious problems that exist, but this is not the way to deal with them. This pretty much ensures that someone important will be leaving this offseason, and unfortunatly, I believe it would be CP himself. :(

If he wants to leave then they are better off without him, at least they can get something for him. Keeping unhappy players is usually asking for trouble.

They would never trade a player of his caliber within the division. Gibbs would have to be senile to do that.

Having said that, if it gets to the point they have to move him, look for the jets, that is their trading partner all the time.

Other teams that need a runner desperately are cleveland and maybe detroit.

I dont think they can trade him though, they wouldnt get fair compensation in return, especially when you realize they gave up a first day pick and champ bailey for him.

He is an injury risk if you ask me and teams are happy to get runners in the draft now. I think they are going to be stuck with him.

Well, there have been several rumors flying around that portis could get traded to the lions for sean rogers...Of course, though, these are nothing but wild speculation that probably means nothing though.

but still, it sounds like 1/4 of the team is angry at this point.

Maybe this is portis' way or trying to say he wants a trade, but I dont agree with how he went forth.

Portis is a hypocrite. He complains about snitches, then goes on a radio show and reveals private, behind-the-scenes happenings with the coaching staff. I'd be shocked if they didn't shop him next spring. I just hope they don't find a sucker buyer.

i heard Minnesota needs a running back....

honestly though if They traded CP there goes that "wonderful" offense, he was carring that team and you saw it when he got hurt how fast they traded for another running back.

It's weird, the first half of the interview, he seemed to be supportive of Gibbs and more harsh on his teammates... but then by the end he was ripping on the whole structure... Gibbs, Saunders, front office, you name it.

That seems crazy from detroit's end. I think they are equally great players, but good luck finding a pass rushing defensive tackle! You can find a running back that is capable in every round of the draft.

It takes years for organizations to draft, develop and re-sign pass rushing defensive tackles. They are very hard to come by.

Honestly unless he goes overboard I dont think portis is going anywhere. Washington could never get fair compensation, especially if they knew he had to be moved. Also no matter what they cannot trade him within the nfc. You just cant do that.

Finally someone that says it like it is.

I just wish everyone else would read this. He WILL NOT GET TRADED! Nuff said! :bang2:

Well, and I think that they will be looking for a lot for him as well. They are going to try and get something like denver got for him, which wont happen.

With that said, portis is going nowhere. He will be our #1 back next year, and I cant say im mad about that. And honestly, those statements I wrote before were writting only off of the summaries of the interview. After actually listening to it completly last night, I didnt think it was as bad as people made it out to be. Commanders fan saw it as his ticket out of D.C. Even though he said some pretty harsh things towards the organization, he is just telling it how it is.

I dont think I even heard him get mad throughout the entire 30 minutes. He sounded very frustraded, but I dont think he is completly done here in the same right.

As for top 5 back

LT

LJ

Westbrook

Steven Jackson

Shaun Alexander

Edge

Gore

maybe #8 is for Portis

He is better than Gore, Edge, and Steven Jackson easily. To even add Westbrook up there is a joke. He's never been much of a rusher, and he just passed 1,000 yards rushing this season.

Was he average last season? Please. No one is average when they reach 1,500 yards and 10+ touchdowns. Julius Jones is average, can he boast those numbers?

It's pretty telling that Betts averaged more yards per carry (by a mile) in Portis' place than CP has since he got to Washington.

You compare Betts to Portis, in the only season Betts has EVER been healthy the whole year to the only year where Portis has been injured all season. How about you compare Betts' best season to Clinton's best...oh no, that would mean you'd actually have to be objective! :laugh2: No way THAT'S gonna happen!

Betts is likely better than both Jones and Barber. He's had more carries than went for 10+ yards than both of them.

What I thought was very telling from this interview, and no one has mentioned yet, was Portis' comments on Ladell Betts. He's frustrated that people automatically think he's going to be traded because Betts has, in his own words, become a "star." He's also frustrated that people are saying Betts outplayed him this season, when Saunders called different running plays when he was on the field than Betts.

The Skins OL isn't strong in pulling, only Randy Thomas can do it well consistently, yet when he was starting they kept doing stretch plays and the blocking was never there. Portis goes on IR, Betts goes in, and now their running up the middle. Doing plays that accentuate Dockery, Jansen, and Samuels' strengths and yet, Betts is somehow a better fit for the offense when the running game looked completely different once Campbell and Betts took over.

Question for you...a legit question and not a flame.

I have heard many times that one of Clintons problems with the skins offense is that he is a person that is better off running without having to wait for blocks to develop. I am not talking about just straight man blocking but developing blocks that can take a little time. In other words he is not known as a patient runner to let those things develop.

That does not make him a bad back, really anyone that says he is not good is just being a hater. They may question his durability but no one should question that he is a good runner.

The question I have, is betts better in the scheme for this team. Not talking about him taking over full time but just is he a better type of runner...more patient and therefore taking more advantage.

NOT saying betts is a better rb than portis...I have always liked betts even in college but he does not have the same athletic abilities of portis.

But sometimes RBs just match better with an offensive philosophy. I think maybe betts just is better in that one area of being patient.

But I did not watch enough games to really notice that....so is that a legit take.
