I can't believe how dense some of our fans are.

If Smith doesn't commit the hold, we win. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION.

Clock-management was fine.

The thing is, why not 3 kneel downs and then punt, reducing a possible loss in regulation to virtually nil. Sure it would then be possible to tie but sideline passes would have had to be perfect and cover 55 - 60 yards in about 20 - 25 seconds. I think Garrett had it in his mind to get points and that set the stage for the debacle that followed. He did not need the points, he needed to kill the clock.

The end of the game was coached very poorly. Kneel down on 3rd no brainier. Safe runs on first and second. Game over.
Yes. He shouldn't have held. Yes Tanner shouldn't have bounced it. The coach needs to be prepared for each of those and any other possibilities that could cost us the ability to run time and cause a loss.
You will never in your life see another team lose a game like that. So there's that.

Because if that backfired and we still lost, everyone would be crying about Garrett being too conservative?

The strategy was fine and the fact that we pushed the lead to 6 should have been huge. YOUR strategy keeps the lead at 3, which greatly increases Detroit's chances to win the game since they'd only need to get into FG range on their last drive.

If Tyron doesn't commit the penalty, we win and nobody's questioning the strategy.

I've always wondered why NFL teams don't hire a few mathematicians to work out formulas to figure out the most effective use of timeouts. Sometimes you see coaches taking a timeout right before the 2 minute warning, which actually penalizes you because it gives the offense a chance to run or pass since the clock will stop anyways.

How exactly do they win the game with a field goal? What happens if instead of a touchback, the ball is downed inside the 10 yard line with about 20 - 25 seconds left. Either way, Detroit's options make pass defense easier because they must absolutely not get tackled in bounds with such little time remaining. If Garrett really wanted to grab the game by the throat, he could have put Romo and the offense on orders to march for a first down, which would have really sealed the deal without heightened blood pressure. He knew, or should have known, just like Manning knew in Dallas, that to give the ball back with such wretched pass defense was asking for it.

We will have to agree to disagree here my friend.

Excellent point about Peyton Manning. John Fox and Manning specifically told their players to NOT score which would give the Cowboys the ball back down 7. Their whole plan was for Dallas to never play offense again. Of course, Garrett was outsmarted there too and refused to attempt to let Denver score he just them run out the clock.

Garrett is on the wrong side of these clock/game mgmt decisions EVERY time. Every single time.

He simply should not be a NFL head coach.

We definitely have seen a pattern emerge concerning Garrett and clock management and it ain't good. Taking away his o coordinator duties was suppose to help that... So far, not so much. There seems to be chaos in these late game situations

His clock management is a small matter. What concerns me is RedBall's inability to impress upon his team his will to insure the desired outcome. The last few games they have lost by a close margin he just looked like a bystander. I expect more from him in the last few minutes of a close game.

Interesting idea. No comment on Jason's management, but a legitimate statistician in the booth who could used applied statistics to promote a course of action that would lead to the most likely scenario for a win--that maybe a real benefit.

That's the perfect word - bystander.

I've seen it his entire HC tenure.

How many times have assistant coaches screamed at him to throw the red flag or call a TO?

How many times have we seen Romo pleading with him to DO SOMETHING. OR Romo snapping at Garrett as he walks off the field.

Every other guy in a position of sub-leadership around Garrett seems to be more aware and into the game than him.

He's not a walk-around head coach, he's a walk-away head coach.

Look, this guy is just not smart. People, still in their sub-conscious, because of constant past hammering, think he's smart and savvy. It's obvious that even with play-calling duties revoked, he can't understand even basic situations. It is what it is... The guy is football dumb...

There is no point in comparing Jimmy and Tom to Jason... Those guy won Super Bowls and built their team from ground up. They both revolutionized the game, the former in how he drafted and fiery greatness and the latter, in his vision and style. They both had solid plans and went about it. In 6 years with this clown, nothing has changed. Nothing.. Nothing visionary in terms of attacking teams, nothing special in defense. Just constant waffling and excuses.
