Coaching Matters!

Maybe they are executing better because the coaching was better.
It's not just our team. Look around the league. Bortles, Goff both looks much better with a new coach.

I feel people defending Garrett at this point is useless, i understand maybe they are paid give everything a good spin... but after 9 years and 2 playoff berths with no deep playoff runs, its just useless to defend Garrett .

& You are right coaching does matter, with the talent we have at offense and defense, A good HC would take us to the playoffs easy .

Probably Richard. I've never seen Marinelli blitz this much.

Secondly, our offense still sucks. Im still not impressed. They should have had Dak from the get go use the RPO. We also need to get Zeke more involved with the passing game. I hate it when we have a small lead Garrett tends to get conservative. Yes, that's his trademark.

Offensive play calling was pretty good but we just aren't very talented. They did call alot more rpo's. Dak looked more comfortable this week but still not very good passing. Hopefully he continues to get better next week.

On the one big play Awuzie gave up, he still had great coverage and the ball was about 2 inches over his hand. Another 3 inches and he knocks it away, another 6 inches and its probably an INT.

And that is why Richard likes long corners. You can't coach those inches away.

It was the Giants, I like the win but will reserve judgement for O coaching for a better team. Their pants still have brown stains from Carolina and I can still smell it.

Defense has been playing lights out, both games.

Yep..

I think Marinelli is a great teacher but a average defensive schemer.

We may have a Coordinator now that doesn’t rely on his front 4 and send super predictable blitzes.

Our blitz packages were just awesome tonight. Eli’s Head was spinning.
It wasn't just the blitzes, the stunts had their OL all kinds of confused. They had no idea of who was rushing from where and who to pass the block to and who to pick up, they got schooled.

Yep and there are coaches out there who can do that offensively and I wish we would upgrade the offense to that style of coaching.

Of course we could always go back to Marinelli's way and just try to out execute them but I prefer better schemes.

Yep, like the thread title says.....Coaching Matters

More times than not when this team wins it's more in spite of Garrett NOT because of him.......after his brilliant halftime adjustments he becomes more of our enemy than HC.

I haven't figured out how to post a like yet, but I whole heartedly agree

Offensive play calling is conservative, boring and very vanilla. Lets not fool ourselves. They did call more RPO but that was during the waning moments of the game. Too little too late.

As for passing, they need to get Dak out of the pocket. More roll outs and bootlegs. Also they need to start using rub routes, slants and screens. Zeke needs to get involved in the passing game. None of these bombs or deep passes every once in a while. Its not creative. Its being reactionary.

Coaching absolutely matters. Look at how much better Byron Jones looks this year now that he's playing in position and not being switched around. Richard knows what to do with that secondary. We also didn't give up our traditional TD before half time.

Look at how fluid our offense was once some creativity was brought on board. Now imagine having a coach that can do that the whole game long. Unleash Linehan from any restrictions from the Garrett playbook and if this offense still looks like it's stuck in sludge, bring in a new OC

True for the 1st half of the game. But of course JG wants to play 1990s conservative ball. We went M.I.A in the 3rd, we can't win that way. Dak played great in the 1st half but had the Garrett "leash" put back on in the 2nd..

Doesn't sound like you watched the game. Just because they aren't successful doesn't mean it's conservative. Dak just isn't that good. He took his shots downfield only 1 worked and he missed both Rico and Beasley in the end zone. Gotta call plays dak can make.

Yes I watched the game. Just because they call for more deep passes doesn't show offensive improvement. Offense needs to use more quick passes - slants and rub routes. Zeke needs to get involved in the passing game also. Get Dak out of the pocket, move him around and use RPO and make passes off of that.

2-3 TE sets are boring, predictable and very vanilla. I still see it alot. Linehan/Garrett needs to spread the offense with 3-4 receiver sets. That way teams can't stack the box.
