The nebulous "good coach" passed down from urban legend.A good coach based on what?

I have never gotten the hype about Parker. He's never been a DC, so from where did this urban legend come?Is he a good coach because he came from a team with a good DC? What convinced you that he will be good?
Agree, uncooked and we still play Plan A. Schotty must have learnt that Dak is not a comeback QB, especially when we struggle to stop the run.Unprepared, out physicaled and out coached. Giants were well coached and prepared Their players came ready to play.
That would be the Cowboys PR team.Is he a good coach because he came from a team with a good DC? What convinced you that he will be good?
It's a Jerry thing.I have never gotten the hype about Parker. He's never been a DC, so from where did this urban legend come?
You call this coaching staff retreadsI've made this post multiple times I think over the past 10-15 years.
You saw it tonight. The giants finally got a coach and it mattered. We keep hiring retreads nobody wants. No toughness, no discipline, mistake after mistake. Just hype The Dallas cowboys are once again a massively overrated team. 30 years of this BS all because the stubborn owner has to win with his hand picked guy.
Less talented at the QB, WR CB and DT positions aka most of the GLAMOR positions.I’m hoping Jerry sees this and thinks about it on the flight home. A less talented team (on paper) with a proven HC beat a more talented team (on paper) with a hopeful project of a coach. I hope this resonates with Jerry and FO.
I think for me this loss sucks because it was Garrett 2.0. The punt on 4th and inches is such a Garrett move. I was having flashbacks. Schotty was starting to win me over but this loss sent him back a few notches. We came out flatter than a preseason game and seemed uninterested. We came out with more intensity for the preseason game against the Cardinals.
Coaching definitely matters and we can talk about Dak, Micah, Romo and all the other things we have tonight in all the other threads but the reality is when Jimmy walked out that door we are 2 Neil O’Donnell interceptions away from never winning a Super Bowl since ‘93.
He is a good coach. Whether or not he's going to be a good DC remains to be seen. He had a really embarrassing game. There were no in-game defensive adjustments and his unit couldn't make a stop. The Giants were 10 of 11 on 3rd down. Either he doesn't know how to make adjustments in-game or just doesn't know what adjustments to make. Either way, it's concerning. It's pretty clear CP needs some time to get the defense ready.
He's a good coach. The defense just won't be what we expected as quickly as we all hoped.
DT isn't flashy.Less talented at the QB, WR CB and DT positions aka most of the GLAMOR positions.
DE - Giants are better
LB - Giants are better
S - Talent wise a toss up but Giants were better tonight
OL - Giants are better with Tyler Smith out.
RB - Giants are better
TE - Giants are better
Cowboys media focuses on the flashy. Giants have a team that has a strategy for how they want to move the ball and stop you. The Cowboys want to just throw it to the two big WRs and think that’ll be enough. Giants operate efficiently.
It is when you haven’t had one for years. Talk was Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark were going to improve everything around them by shutting down the run single-handedly. And Williams did cause a fumble.DT isn't flashy.
Both are considered top players at their DT position. They were disappointing last night. Both trenches. We got out muscled. Very surprisingIt is when you haven’t had one for years. Talk was Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark were going to improve everything around them by shutting down the run single-handedly. And Williams did cause a fumble.
But it takes more than 2 players to stop the run.
Schottenheiner is just glad to have a job himself. He needs Jerry's permission to do anything like that and he won't get it.If Schottenheimer is any kind of coach he pulls Parker in the office and watches film and tells him bluntly
“you didnt adjust a darn thing and allowed them to beat you under all game, if you want to make a name for yourself in the NFL you need to adjust and if you cant do that maybe we hired the wrong guy”
| Coach | Cowboys tenure | What he’s doing now (2026) |
| Bill Parcells | 2003–2006 | Retired. At 85, he remains connected to football and regularly talks with/provides advice to coaches including Sean Payton and Todd Bowles. |
| Wade Phillips | 2007–2010 | Retired. He most recently coached the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas, stepping away in 2025 for medical reasons. In August 2026 he confirmed he’s retired—while joking, “unless somebody calls.â€Â |
| Jason Garrett | 2010–2019 | NBC Sports analyst. He works college football, some NFL games and Football Night in America. He interviewed for the Titans HC job in early 2026, so he hasn’t completely closed the door on coaching. |
| Mike McCarthy | 2020–2024 | Pittsburgh Steelers head coach. Pittsburgh hired him in January 2026 after Mike Tomlin stepped down. |
| Brian Schottenheimer | 2025–present | Cowboys head coach. Dallas promoted him after two seasons as offensive coordinator. He’s now in his second season as HC. |
