Jerry Rice had 942 receptions by the end of the 1995 season. That was Monk's last year in which he had 6 receptions and finished with 940 for his career.

it's odd that monk is always mentioned as 'retiring as the all time leader in receptions'- do a google search and you'll see everybody saying that.
