It hasn't. I don't trash players who play well.

And you have no problem with constantly insisting that Roy needed to be cut??

Two months ago, you didn't want Roy on the team, now you're "fulsomely" praising him... I guess you don't see the problem...

The problem is that Roy deserved criticism, but you (and others) took it too far... and now, the summer's favorite whipping boy is in just about everybody's good graces... there should be a lesson in that for you...

Uh, Roy wasn't very good for us up until this season.

No, he wasn't... but as his play this year shows us quite clearly, and as I insisted all along, talent was never the problem...

And he was ranked in the 40s last year.

Which is a long way from "worst receiver in the league"...

That's kind of my point, Bob, that folks in here get down on a player, and the hyperbole flows... Roy was never anywhere near as bad as a lot of you were trying to make us believe he was that summer... and of course, he's not the only example of this extreme overreaction from this past summer; Montrae Holland was a "fat disgrace" who needed to be cut, fans were semi-outraged when Jerry re-signed him... but now, in the thread talking about Kosier missing a couple-three games over the next few weeks, a lot of those same fans are saying "no big deal, Holland can cover for him just fine"...

Hey, when I was younger, I did the same thing, I overreacted to everything related to the Boys... but over time, I've learned that it's best to take more of a long-term view... I knew what Roy had done for Detroit, so it didn't seem likely to me that he'd suddenly lost all that ability... and I knew that Holland was considered the Broncos' best offensive lineman when they traded him to Dallas, but he wasn't a good fit for their zone blocking scheme (he was always more of a straight-ahead mauler)... so even after his first two seasons, when he saw little to no playing time, I felt that he could play well for the Boys if he was given extended playing time...

Then again, I'm always reluctant to give up on Cowboys players, to the point where I'd hold on to them too long... which means I'd likely be a rotten GM, I'd be TOO patient... hell, I hated to see Flozell Adams go, and Larry Allen, but I can now accept that it was time for both of them to move on...

Nope. If a player looks atrocious, then he gets called out.

One "barely" decent game doesn't make a NFL QB.

ROTFLMAO... this from the guy who insisted the Steelers were gonna eat him alive...

I will stand by hate errrrr opinion that he won't be any better Brady Quinn.

Again, ROTFLMAO... he's already had a better game than Brady EVER had...

Just wait, in about 2 or 3 weeks you will be back here gorging on deep fried extra crispy crow.

I'm quite willing to take my chances on that one... Colt doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but it's not as weak as you'd have us believe... and what he had in college, that he also showed in this game, is:

1) Accuracy... he completed nearly 70 per cent of his passes in that game, much as he did for the Horns with some consistency...

2) Mobility... the Steelers blitzed him silly, and they got him 5 times, but he also escaped the rush with some regularity, either finding open receivers downfield or running for positive yardage... again, his junior year at UT, he was the Horns' leading rusher...

3) He plays SMART...

That's what he was in college, and that's exactly what he showed us against the Steelers...

And you know it, you rascal... you just can't bring yourself to admit it...

Now if we want to talk about a rookie QB look no further than Sam I Am in St. Louis. That boy is the real deal !!! He might be leading the lowly Rams to playoffs in his 1st year.

You won't get an argument from me on that one, except possibly the part about leading the Lambs to the playoffs... I'll believe that when I see it, but of course that's not Sam's fault... he's been everything the "experts" expected, and more...

Hell, one day we may see Colt against Sam in the Super Bowl!!!

OK, maybe not... :D

I doubt you'll ever get him to repent of being a Sooner... he should, but for some perverse reason he seems to take pride in it...

Wow, one good drive by Colt and he is getting praised? He was 6/10 for 60yds and an int in the first half. He didn't start to show any promise until the TD drive with 5 minutes to go. Quit blowing his performance up into something it isn't.

A game is 60 minutes long, and his stats for the full game are VERY impressive, especially going up against that Steelers defense, especially with a decimated receiving corps, a beat up offensive line and no running game...

And especially for his first-ever start in the NFL...

Yeah, Cyth, I have no problems saying he had a VERY impressive debut... if only because he did...

Did Roy not suck for 2 years?

You're still missing the point-- you gave up on him this past summer, and now you're seeing what he's capable of...

Sometimes, patience can be a virtue (and like I said, sometimes you can overdo that, too)... I have a hunch that if you were a GM, you'd have the ultimate revolving door in your locker room... let a player have a bad game or two or three, and you'll send him packing...

Meanwhile, you'll have to admit that I stood behind Roy all along, and now MY patience is being rewarded...

Lemme put it to you this way, pal-- with your youthful impatience, you would have gotten rid of Tom Landry long before he became the winner that he was... and you probably would have gotten rid of Troy after his rookie season, let him become a Hall of Famer for somebody else...

But with all that said, even I was THIS close to giving up on Roy going into this season... so while I'm making a semi-legitimate point, I'm also messin' with ya...

Did you actually watch the game or just the stat line? He did nothing that was impressive over the course of 60 minutes.

I flipped back and forth between games when it was on... but I can state unequivocally that completing nearly 70 per cent of your passes for 281 yards, and running for 22 more yards is a good game... hell, that's over 300 yards of total offense in his first ever NFL start, and against one of the finest defenses in the league, while working with a beat-up offensive line and (especially) receiving corps...

If you're not impressed after watching that, I'd suggest you go see an optometrist, 'cause your eyes are not working properly...

Stats don't lie, Cyth... and that stat line would be impressive even if it was put up against one of the worst defenses in the league...

Stats lie all the time and we as Cowboys fans should know this well (how are we ranked 3rd in total offense, 4th in total defense and sitting at 1-4!?!).

The fact is Colt was Captain Checkdown against Pittsburgh. He completed 17 passes to TEs and RBs on 22 targets and only 6 of 11 targets to WRs. His yards were mostly YAC.

Playing against one of the best defenses in the game, and with a severely depleted receiver corps, getting sacked 5 times and being forced to run 4 more times, what the hell do you EXPECT him to do??

ANY quarterback under that kind of pressure would go to the short pass, that's Football 101... and when the smoke cleared, he had completed nearly 70 per cent of his passes, for 281 yards...

Oh, and while you sneer that "his yards were mostly YAC", I respond that this shows us that he was throwing the ball with great accuracy, hitting his receivers in stride so that they COULD run with the ball after the catch...

Only you would suggest that Colt did not have a very impressive NFL debut, and you're surely wasting your time trying to convince me he didn't... he stood in there under great pressure, he found open receivers, and he put the ball on the money with consistency... he made few if any mistakes (apparently both ints were tipped balls)... IOW, he did a fine job of making chicken salad out of chicken crap... or to put it another way, he played exactly the way he did in college...

I have no idea what you expect from a quarterback, but I'll take that effort all day, every day...

I love the excuses you make for him. He looked like a poor man's Jason Campbell.

it would have been even better if he was an aggie because he really just ran out of time.

Colt is a raw rookie.
But for his first start in that lion's den (with players getting blown up everywhere) I'd say the kid performed very well. At least for those who went so far as to say the guy would get cut this year, I'd say time to eat crow. That ain't happening. As for those who say he will or won't make a very good NFL QB, the jury is obviously still out and will be that way for a a year or two.

I also recall many Bradford detractors. I think that could be serious crow-eating material...but again, we'll know more in a year. To me, they guy looks very good.

My guess is at this point, both teams think they got fair value for their draft picks.

You don't see the connection? Campbell had a good completion rate because he was great at throwing short to the TE/RB in the flat. He racked up his yards on YAC and was the second leading rusher on his team while getting sacked 4 times a game.
