what about a certain QB who had it made at OU, messed up, and ended up at Sam Houston State?

Bomar hasn't even been all that good there, IMO...

Damn my clues were too easy......btw, im not saying I want him, just throwing names out there. he had the tools at OU, but it is easy to have the tools when you are surrounded to top tier talent.

He's rather Bledsoe-esque... runs like a 5.1 40... but he seems to have one trait that Bledsoe lacked, he gets rid of the ball quickly... he has to, working behind NMSU's offensive line...

So he is like Dan Marino....Big, not very mobile, quick release, nimble in the pocket?

I'm not gonna say he's got Marino's ability, but his style is similar, yes...

Brett Favre and Dan Marino on the same team would be sweet! :laugh2:

oh believe me, i am not insinuating that he is even in the same stratosphere skill or ability wise as Marino.....I was just asking about his playing style and pocket presence

Oh, I knew what you meant, but I knew if I wasn't real careful how I phrased my answer, I'd have some posters jumpin' all over me...

When Colt was a freshman, setting records for UT, I started contemplating him eventually winding up a Cowboy, and got giddy... my plan was for Jerry to draft him two years from now, let him back up Romo for a couple-three years, then eventually be the heir apparent...

Then he regressed last year... started making the mistakes he did not make as a freshman... and I wondered if he was a flash in the pan... I told myself that he needed to bounce back big this year, or he'd wind up a 6th round pick in 2010...

Well, friends, he's gotten off to a heckuva start... yesterday against Florida Atlantic, we saw the old Colt, as he joined Vince Young as only the second UT quarterback to have multiple games of 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing...

He went 20 of 24 (two of the incompletions were drops), for 223 yards, 3 TDs and no ints... he also led the team in rushing, with 103 yards on 12 carries, and another TD...

Most impressive of all was his toughness; FAU was flagged for hitting him late 3 different times, and he just bounced back up, and made 'em pay...

OK, the level of competition wasn't Big XII, but this was a terrific game, and a good omen for Colt and the Horns... 326 yards of total offense, on 36 plays, it's tough to beat that...

He never gives up...thats his best attribute.

And updating Colt's season, after tonight's 52-10 victory over Rice...

Tonight, he went 19 of 23 for 327 yards, and 4 more TDs... he also ran 8 times, for 84 yards, and another TD (he looked like a fullback on that 8 yard run, steamrolling a defender at the 2 then strolling into the end zone)...

So for the season, through 3 games Colt's numbers look like this:

63 completions in 81 attempts (77.8%), for 831 yards (277.0 yards per game, 10.3 yards per attempt), 11 TDs and 1 int... he also has 25 carries for 195 yards (7.8 yards per attempt) and 2 more TDs... his quarterback rating is currently at an unbelievable 206.3, he's averaging 342 yards per game of total offense, and 9.7 yards per play...

Folks, it don't get much better than that... particularly not when the Horns don't really have a single back that scares opposing defenses (I'm not sure, but I think Colt is the team's leading rusher at this point)...

Defensively, they're still a little soft, giving up too many yards, but they've only allowed 11.0 points per game...

Bear how can you not be sure.....of course he is the teams leading rusher. He is probably 100 yds better than the 2nd guy. I liked the way their FB ran tonight. He needs to be used more often during Conference play. Did Tre Newton red-shirt? I know he is at UT, Nate talks about it all the time on the radio, but I have yet to see him play.

As far as the defense goes. I think they did a very good job as the game went on of getting pressure with limited pass rushers. I also think they did a great job of bend but don't break. 12 plays inside the 6 and give up ZERO points was awesome. The spread offense is hard to shut down. I don't mind the yards, as long as they are keeping the opposition off the scoreboard. They can give up 500 yds a game for all I care.....but if they only give up 11 pts per game, they will win.

Colt is a flat out stud. If he enters the draft, He is the QB I want......hands down. He has bulked up and looks amazing. He has grown so much in his time at UT. His accuracy is just sick. His decision making is superb. Of course it helps that he has so much time in the pocket...I am curious how he will respond to constant pressure. In fact, I feel the same about Sam Bradford....Both guys seem to be able to bake a cake and decorate it before throwing a pass.

Ok so did you see Shipley's guns? He is ripped.

71, actually...

He hasn't played yet, but I don't know if he's redshirting...

How weird is it, big ol' sloppy fat Nate has a son, and the kid's a whip-thin bit of greased lightning?? :D

I only got to see the 3rd quarter as I got ready for work, but the defense was pretty good then... the only score they had was after Chiles fumbled deep in Horns territory...

Saw him tonight with his helmet off, and he doesn't look nearly as baby-faced as he did when he first arrived in Austin...

This last is what I've been looking for this season; last year, he made more than a few questionable decisions...

Must be hangin' out at GNC...

Bradford has a slight edge in the passing stats, but Colt has a decisive advantage in the rushing stats. Both QBs are having excellent seasons thus far. Both QBs should be near the top of the Heisman candidate list right now.

Today vs ArKANSAS

17-19
183 yds

He didn't have a lot of yards, but Texas didn't need many long drives....the most important stat for me is 5 TDs and 0 TOs.

Beat me to it, wild man... I'll get you for that, LOL...

So, for the season, McCoy is 80 for 100 (uhhh, I think that's 80.0%), for 1014 yards (253.5 yards per game and 10.1 yards per attempt), 14 TDs and 1 int... that gives him a cumulative quarterback rating of 209.4...

He's added 34 carries for 281 yards (8.3 yards per attempt) and 4 more TDs... he has 134 touches in those 4 games, for 1295 yards and 18 TDs worth of total offense... that's almost 325 yards per game of total offense (even though he's only throwing the ball an average of 25 times a game), and 9.7 yards per touch...

And the Horns are outscoring their opposition 198-36... this time, the opposition was not some sacrificial lamb, but rather an SEC team that was 2-1 going into the game... and it was the third 52-10 victory for the Horns on this young season... with Georgia and USC losing, the Horns-- who were ranked 7th in both polls last week-- should be a top 5 teams in the next polls...

This was the defense's best game, as they held the Razorbacks under 200 yards of total offense, and 3 points (the other TD was an 80 yard fumble return late in the game)...

McCoy is simply having a great season so far... the Horns will be tough for anybody to beat if he keeps on playing like this (I'm mindful that Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas Tech loom)...

I'm a big Colt fan, and he and the team have played great. BUT, they haven't played anyone even near decent yet. Arkansas is an SEC team that was 2-1 but they SUCK HARDCORE. Their two wins were against non-BCS conference teams (is Western Illinois even I-A I don't know?) and they were squeakers. They got pounded in their other loss by Alabama..no shame in that but they aren't any good.
