This is also a reminder of how one player can effect the outcome of the game. David accounted for 21 of the Colts 41 points. I am sure he will be the focal point of the offensive coordinators the Saints D will face this season. I kinda felt bad for the kid getting embarrased on national TV in a game that almost all football fans probably watched.

it's funny, because John and Al were talking during the game about what David told them how to defend Peyton, when it was Peyton who applied his knowledge of David

It's about the depth at each position, that's why you draft for depth. I have confidence in the backups, let's play the season!

I don't think Jason David really had much to do with the Saints only scoring 3 offensive points. That Colts defensive staff completely outcoached Sean Payton. They were so up in his head as a play caller it was ridiculous (did Brees even attempt a pass over 15 yards the entire night that wasn't picked off?)

I think Payton was running passive, vanilla schemes. Either that, or playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Those are usually the two main culprits.

I could have used a man like you around here last night. :laugh2:

I think what we saw was Payton coming out at halftime and making no halftime adjustments. Can you believe they don't flip their corners? Jason David can't be very tall.

I dont think that the Saints loss has decided anything for them in the upcoming 15 games plus playoffs. Payton will adjust and they will have a good year I think.

You know whats funny... I dont see any Saints fans in here trolling around :lmao:

They are ALL waiting to see what happens with our Sunday game.
If we win... you wont see them for a while.

If we lose.. then maybe, just maybe they may show up to do some minor league trolling.... you know "we both lost.. but remember when we beat you last year" :lmao:
I know it's only one game, but the Saints should be concerned. Jamaal Brown couldn't block anybody and Jason David couldn't cover anyone. The offense netted -3 points (3 pt FG - Brees' TD pass to the Colts defender) against a mediocre defense. Teams will try to copy what Indy did on defense. Payton will need to find a way to adjust.

I doubt he would have been successful if he was any taller. He let Reggie Wayne run right by him.

I dont think they should be concerned. they were in a tough spot last night and I am not sure they will play a game that tough again until the playoffs.

I can see them going on a big run starting next week.

People saying they suck this morning are cracking me up.

I don't think they suck, but they were certainly exposed much like they exposed us. Unfortunately for them it came in the first game of the year. Their run defense wasn't very good. They played Cover 2 to eliminate the deep ball and they were scorched by the deep pass.

The good news for the Saints is they were playing the champs. Their offense not scoring a TD was a big surprise to me. They'll need to score a ton of points to save that defense. I still think the Saints win their division, but not much more. They aren't sneaking up on anyone this year.

It sure is nice having football back!

I don't think they'll go 3-13, but they had a lot of things go right for them last year and there were a lot of weak spots in that lineup that went unexploited for the most part (Jamaal Brown playing at left tackle for the first time in his career, the LB corps) that were exposed last night. Yeah, the Colts were supercharged for the season opener, but the Saints were on the other end of that coin all of last year. The Saints are the guys with the bullseyes on their back now, and they're the biggest home game of the year for every team in the NFC South. They can expect to be in a few more environments like that this season.

I was surprised at the inability of the Saints to stretch the field.

That - and the Colts defense looked impressive. Pressured well and FLEW to the ball, in proper cover 2 fashion.

I'm not saying they suck, but they really need to address these deficiencies. Brown and David looked absolutely pathetic. These guys are new starters. They have a very easy schedule and a fairly week division, so I still think they should squeezed past the Panthers to win the division. Without addressing their LT and CB situations, I don't see them beating teams like Philly, Dallas, Chicago, or even Seattle. It's not that these guys simply played bad; they were abused by the Colts players. Brown looked like a turnstile and David is probably being treated for burns.

I think the Saints are still contenders in their division. After all with Tampa Carolina and Atlanta in their division they don't have to be that good to make the playoffs. But they need to be better at stopping the run to compete with the Bears and Seahawks and possibly the Cowboys in the NFC.

I agree-I am shocked to see some of their personnel(i.e. Mark Simoneau) still starting for them(or any other team for that matter).

However-this IS the NFC, and pretty much only the Bears have a complete D(too bad that Gross guy will weigh it down), so they will still be contenders nonetheless, even with all those scrub players.

It was also a fantastic reminder of how nothing is more important (or even close) than good execution. The Colts don't do anything exotic, they just line up and beat you. They run the same boring plays over and over again...stretch play, lead draw, play action....rinse, repeat...But they have continuity and a group of players who do what they're asked and do it well.

On the other side, we saw exotic playcalls, players dancing around when they should have just gone forward, and burned blitzes lead to a complete arse-whooping for the Saints.
Yep, continuity may be the most underrated factor in successful organizations in the NFL. With all the talk of parity you see the same teams continue to have success. When the Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Eagles Broncos and Seahawks are consistently contending for the playoffs year after year, the fact that all these teams have a strong organizational foundation and philosophy that has matured over the course of 8+ seasonsis of extreme importance.

Getting exposed at the beginning of the season has got to be better than later, gives you time to make adjustments. And I'm not counting Tampa out just yet, it's gonna be interesting to watch Tampa and the Aints duke it out, my money is on Tampa:eek:

You may be right. That divison looks to be up for grabs and with decent QB play from Garcia, allowing defenses not to put 8 in the box against Cadillac, the Bucs may be able to make noise
