Comes down to WR or CB. Or?

Every year, rain or shine, highwater or drought, the fans declare that we need more CB's and WR's. And every year we lose because our D can't stop the run or pressure the QB.

Yep 3 WR/s start and clearly we dont need some super star 3rd WR. Cooper is #1 and Gallup us #2. Heck TE at this point is more important than the #3 WR position. And as I said, Devon Smith is a very good young receiver already on our team.

Fulton on some lists is the #15 ranked player in the draft. But Im not the Cowboys and I dont go over film and scout. My point is pretty simple. Nothing to do with Fulton. If there is a top corner available and he is slighly lower ranked than the WR, you take the CB. Doesnt have to be the #1 guy on our board.

I woudl never advocate reaching for a corner. That is just some nonsense you keep making up in your head.
Ok what I am telling you is after Henderson there is not cb ranked slightly lower than those wr’s. If it comes down to Henderson and one of the wr’s then it’s close but after Henderson we would just be reaching for a cb just to draft one.

I never would have drafted Taco or Hill. TJ Watt was available when we took Taco. That was simply a dumb pick. There were also two GREAT prospects at safety available when Hill was picked. AGAIN, that was ANOTHER stupid pick advised by Marinelli and what he wanted.

So NEITHER of those were actually a forced need pick. They were just dumb picks.

THIS scenario is really not realistic. How about this unrealistic scenario?

If the BPA on the board is a RB are you taking him? Hell no you aren't taking him.

If the players are close on your talent board, I am going for the high need over the no need.
However, I would never REACH for a player.
Those were both need picks. They needed a DE so they took taco over watt because they didn’t feel watt was DE, EVEN THOUGH they had watt rated higher than taco on their board. Same thing with hill, hill was not the highest rated player and they took him because they needed a under tackle

WR is now the only starting position that we don't have a competent option for.

While I agree with you think about it this way. Corner is also very deep this year. In the first it comes down to who they think is better for instance.

If Lamb, Juedy or Ruggs is there and Henderson is there which one do you take? That's very tough but ultimately I might go Henderson. Now let's say one of the three receivers are there and it's Fulton(or a different corner) who would you pick? I'm taking one of the receivers and not thinking twice.

Well also consider we could lose 2 CB's next year. Beyond this year we only have Brown under contract with starting experience. The depth at WR is also concerning but my belief is we've poured enough high end resources into the offense. If the scouts say talent is close they should go defense, but if the wr is graded higher by a decent margin then take him.

I have no problem with that but other than Okudah and Henderson I don't see any other corner close to the talent of the top 3 receivers. No need to reach for corner, that's how you end up with bust. Plenty of corners and receivers this draft. No excuse not to get both positions in the first few rounds and maybe double dip with corner.

agreed that we shouldn't reach and i'm certainly not advocating that for any position. As long as McClay is following his board we should be good.

More than anything else, the off-season moves have set the Cowboys up to truly draft BPA and avoid a reach draft pick.

It also sets the team up to dangle pick 17 to those like the Patriots looking to draft a QB. There are a lot of DT's, CB and DE options from the in the second and third rounds.

I've played around with the Monte Carlo simulation model I developed prior to the combined. Factoring in the latest post-combine big boards, there is fairly equal probability that several of the top 15 players - WR, OT, CB - could easily fall to the Cowboys at 17. That doesn't mean that someone like Kinlaw or Chaisson won't be there. It simply means to me that the options at 17 are wide open.

I think you need to do better research. I have found some that have Fulton ranked at 15. And what really matters is where the Cowboys have these guys ranked.

And you WR strategy is 100% the opposite of what the Cowboys should do. The fact that its a strong WR draft, the smart move would be to wait until the 2nd round when you can still get a great receiver.

They needed a DE, they just picked the wrong one. Should have taken Watt.

And they needed a DT, but they also needed a Safety. Again, simply made the wrong pick.

I think you’re the one who needs to do better research. Please provide multiple draft experts that have Fulton ranked top 15........I’ve been following the draft hard core since the season ended and I’ve seen very little rankings that have Fulton 15. Most have Fulton as a early second round pick.

lol.....your not a draft expert.:lmao::lmao::lmao2::lmao2:
Never said I was that why I leave that up to the actual experts and look at their rankings. Pff has chaisson ranked 46 yet almost all experts have him going top 20. Please use a better source
