Comics and Movies

The character was already established in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow mini-series, which ended three years ago. She was seen drinking early on, but sobered up, which the movie did not do for the most part. She was also extremely cynical, but not to the degree seen in the movie.

While they did overdo it in the movie, the character was who they intended audiences to see. All the previous Supergirls, like Melissa Benoist's role you mentioned, Helen Shaver from the 1984 film, the animated versions, and the comic book versions, were permanently retired and reimagined before Milly Alcock's takeover of the character.

I just saw the Critical Drinker's review. lol it was funny. But one of the comments made me think "SPOT ON!" It's no Cha-Ka from Land of the Last. She looks like the Feral Kid from The Road Warrior. I should say they made her look like that...for whatever reason.
I thought about that the other day as well.

A very informative article and overall good take, although there were a couple of points I disagree with. I am thinking of doing the article's embedded poll here.

What Went Wrong With Supergirl: The Tracking, The Comic, And The Marvel Playbook (link | ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Excerpt -

They ignored the comic they were adapting. Here is the core failure.

Gunn spent the run-up praising Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the acclaimed graphic novel the film was supposedly based on. The movie goes in nearly the opposite direction.

Director Craig Gillespie has been candid that he didn’t start with the source material, saying he “very deliberately didn’t look at Tom King’s book” and worked off Ana Nogueira’s screenplay instead. He eventually went back to the comic and borrowed a few visuals from Evely’s art, but the book was never the foundation.

The biggest change was the ending. Gillespie confirmed it was Gunn who insisted Supergirl kill Krem, saying Gunn was adamant about it from the first draft and refused to even shoot a backup in case testing went badly. That is not how the comic ends...

I have said it many times. Some of these... people... have zero knowledge of what they are adapting.

I borrowed the Reader Poll from the excerpted article I posted a few minutes ago and added the same poll to this thread. I *think* the Kara Zor-El option as the current (or even past reiterations) comic book version since they do not specify which. I will keep it up for a week if any is interested in casting their choice. Right now, the article poll results are:

I went with Kara Zor-El. In my sole opinion, no one has been really adapted well from the comic book version for live action. If not her, I would have gone with animated Supergirl from Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

I had hoped Sasha Calle had gotten a chance to blossom more beyond her appearance in The Flash so she could have been my second backup choice. She was a true multiverse version of the character, but I liked her A lot.

Guess I'm dissing Helen Shaver too, lol. :(

Sasha Calle, on the pole, wasn't my first choice but I think she'd fit pretty well.

Is Kara Zor-El Laura Vandervoort's character in Smallville? If so, that's the one.
Hey! You could be 100% correct, but consider this. All of the choices in the poll, and ones not in the poll, have all gone by the name Kara Zor-El. It's just that in Smallville she did not technically go by the superhero moniker of Supergirl.

Now I find myself regretting my vote after conceding you are probably right. My personal consolation prize will be my honorable mention of animated Supergirl from Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

I really do prefer her costume over James Gunn's re-design:

I'd like to say that the one on the right seems to have the patented " Tuck and Compression" feature sewn into the basket area to eliminate any unwanted bulges or protrusions.

Therefore I won't be mentioning that because I dont want to step outside our posting guidelines.

Never liked any version ....... I think Milly Alcock is cutest ....... to bad she opened her mouth and ruined her movie.

The production companies need to start suing these actors who kill their own movies.

What does " Animated " Supergirl look like ..?

and yikes. my poll vote is losing so badly ..?
