Holy smokes, that's sad.

I really think that only the very young and the elderly should get this vaccine. They are the ones most susceptible to dying from the H1N1 other than the sickly.
other than that, it's just like the regular flu and it's over in a few days. Not worth the risk IMO.

I couldn't watch more than 30 seconds of that. Too depressing.

I dunno.

Thousands die every year from the flu and it isn't only the young, elderly or sickly.

1:1,000,000

If every person in America was given the shot we'd be talking about 300 people who'd get it. Of course there are other risks but even still I don't think the combined risk would outweigh the number of deaths from the flu.

Sucks for her. Really odd condition. Almost seems unreal. The fact that she snaps out of it when running is probably a good indication that this will get worked out in the not too distant future.

Oh my, I would think that they can do something to reverse that. How can there be nothing when she has such lucid normal moments?

This is a local story that's dominating the news. Jim Carrey (the comedian) has offered to help her financially. The problem is that he's a huge anti-innoculation freak, which could dissuade some people from doing the sensible thing.

Is he really?

Guess it makes sense since Jenny McCarthy is the self appointed spokes model for that junk.

We are specifically talking about H1N1. Those that have died from it by and large have been from the groups I mentioned. Add to that the fact the H1N1 scare is what's driving the rush to get the vaccine and you have them showing up on the market far before they have been substantially tested.

There is no way I would risk my family or myself over flu like systems when the result of the vaccine is possibly worse.

Even if all but 1% were from the groups you mentioned, more able bodied youths would still die than would catch her deal.

I don't think that's the case at all. Every year there are new strains of the flu virus and every year they have to make new vaccines to counter them. The vaccine you get for the flu covers the most common types. I don't think there is any sort of deficiency in the H1N1 vaccine from it being rushed to the market.

There is no way I would risk my family or myself over flu like systems when the result of the vaccine is possibly worse.

Avoiding vaccinations because of a 1:1,000,000 chance seems awfully paranoid.

I dont do the flu shots.....never have.

I am cool with the tetinis, polio, pox, etc. vaccines...i am even cool with allergy shots. I've just heard of too many instances where the flu shot causes problems.

I feel really bad for this woman and her husband. She seemed to have had a very nice life, and then this shot took it all away.

On a positive note, this incident has brought this rare disorder into the limelight, if not for a short period. Hopefully a few people with deep pockets and help fund research to find some type of remedy or even cure.

God Bless her.

The video said it was just a seasonal flu shot, H1N1 wasn't mentioned at all.

Again, the reason this has become so prevalent is because of the H1N1 strain. And frankly, I think it is way overblown in the media. It's being used to make a point for HC reform but since the PZ is gone I won't comment further.

Specifically however, Time reported recently that WHO and the CDC said that of the nearly 12,000 reported cases worldwide, most were not severe enough to warrant hospitalization and the ones that had sever complications were suffering from some other underlying medical condition.
